📡 Alabama begins its search for their new basketball coach

Avery is paid like a top 20 coach. The money isn't the problem but the selection of the coach is. The AD and the U of A may have to hang out 3.5 million in the wind and see who's interested. Sounds like the AD is trying to reduce Avery's buyout so he can assist the new coach in buying out his old deal.

Delco guy...……"you can pay me now or you can pay me later"

Sooooooo much more to commitment than $$$.

Why would you assume that, Josh? A simple question posed about who tops your list for a new basketball coach and you take that as I'm upset?

I'm sit here wondering who your choice might be considering how vehemently you proclaimed you weren't watching another game with Avery as head coach. ( @TUSKtimes Adverb. Gonna struggle with that one as well? )

@#80 brings up Sampson. However, as I put it earlier, every candidate out there is going to have pro's and con's.

Consider: We've seen Pitino mentioned. A lot of baggage. We've covered Sampson. Some have mentioned Prohm and I can see why. However, along with his name being suggested there are those that feel he's benefited greatly at ISU because of what Hoiberg built. Thad Matta's name has surfaced along with the questions about health and age.

Pitino, Sampson, and Matta have all had some success. All three have their pro's as well as their con's.

So, we're left with the original question. Who's on your list, Josh?

Well firstly, I was kidding. But I asked that because you were probably the biggest Avery supporter/defender on there and I hadn't seen you post in any of the other threads about it. But again, I was kidding.

And as for the rest of your question, if you saw any of my other posts about this the question of "who the hell do you get to replace him?" is something I asked because I have no clue. Primarily because I dont think any elite coaches will even consider Alabama without making them the No. 1 paid coach in the country.

A source familiar with the negotiations told The News that talks continued on Friday but no resolution has been reached.

The issue may seem like semantics, but those semantics may have a strong financial component. The buyout clause in Johnson’s contract drops from the current $8 million to $6 million on April 15, although there have been no specifics released regarding the issues being discussed in the ongoing negotiations. Regardless, it is virtually impossible to imagine any avenue that would allow for Johnson’s return at this point. Several sources indicated that Johnson informed the Alabama players and staff on Thursday that he would not be back next season.

Avery's wife must be running the show on his side.

The only compromise I see Avery accepting would be to take 6 million right now rather than waiting until April 15.

Being master of the obvious with the below, though I don't think it's been stated yet.

There is a huge opportunity to land a big name right now. The renovation to Coleman via the Crimson Standard fund raiser initiative will be crucial. The right coach will help make this happen quicker.

Has anyone seen Avery's contract? I've looked and haven't found a copy yet.

Baseball a major sport? I'd say it was a major hire for Bama at the time. I'd have to give him a W for that one as well as Mullen at MSU.

That does bring us to RichRod at AZ. Was that a bad hire in a major sport? In hindsight, yes. At the time I thought it might work (with the understanding Arizona isn't a hotbed for successful college football coaches.)

So far, the consensus I've seen is pretty high on the new volleyball coach but that's certainly not a major sport.
Bama was dang close to hiring Rich Rod. Somebody was watching over Bama on that one

Biggest Avery supporter, eh?

I can recall what I've said about Avery as clearly as one can. I've maintained the same stance for months now.

◘ Last year every complained about the offense. This season we saw improvement in the offense (up to a point and then it stopped.)
◘ People have pointed to turnovers and missed free throws as the reasons Bama has lost. I've said they've won as many games with both categories being horrible as they have with both being good.
◘ I've stated I believe laying the blame at Avery's feet for fundamentals is misplaced. That goes much earlier on in a players development. While not citing time limitations as a factor, it's not something a college coach should have to focus on. It should be instilled in a player when they reach this level.
◘ Repeatedly, I've pointed to defensive efficiency being down, drastically, this season. Yet, that's a point going largely ignored. And, that a point of the game I'm certainly not defending.
◘ I've pointed to Hall's lack of leadership. Even he admitted such and then turns around and plays the next game in the same mind-frame. Is that on Avery or Hall? I'm picking the latter.

What I don't see here is something that's becoming of "the biggest Avery defender." What I do see is simply pointing out how some things fit, some things don't, and some are just knee jerk reactions.

And as for the rest of your question, if you saw any of my other posts about this the question of "who the hell do you get to replace him?" is something I asked because I have no clue. Primarily because I dont think any elite coaches will even consider Alabama without making them the No. 1 paid coach in the country.

Do I understand this to also mean you don't believe these elite coaches will consider Bama because it's not an elite program? It's one destined for mediocrity? So, going after an elite coach is just a waste of time and effort? If that's the case why worry about who the next coach will be?

It's confusing trying to get a read on what fans want. I'm seeing a lot of fans set limits on who or what Bama can be. That a sure recipe for remaining right where Bama is today, right?

Joe South...…..

Now your whole world
You see around you
Is just a reflection
And the law of karma
Says you're gonna reap
Just what you sow, yes you will
So unless
You've lived a life of total perfection
You'd better be careful of every stone
That you should throw, yeah

Walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes

Great song
