Or maybe he's waiting to contact an up-and-comer that's in the tournament currently.

Trust me, this is Byrne's first major sport coaching search. He doesn't want his first major hire to tarnish his young legacy as AD. He's gonna surgically vet a list and make a careful hire.

Yeah any coach with games still to play will be using his agent for communication.

Saw this posted on the Rant....so it must be true

The interwebz…...thanks Al Gore

The Dan Mullen hire when he replaced Croom at Mississippi State was a hire in a major sport.

Are you a sad panda @TerryP ?
Why would you assume that, Josh? A simple question posed about who tops your list for a new basketball coach and you take that as I'm upset?

I'm sit here wondering who your choice might be considering how vehemently you proclaimed you weren't watching another game with Avery as head coach. ( @TUSKtimes Adverb. Gonna struggle with that one as well? )

@#80 brings up Sampson. However, as I put it earlier, every candidate out there is going to have pro's and con's.

Consider: We've seen Pitino mentioned. A lot of baggage. We've covered Sampson. Some have mentioned Prohm and I can see why. However, along with his name being suggested there are those that feel he's benefited greatly at ISU because of what Hoiberg built. Thad Matta's name has surfaced along with the questions about health and age.

Pitino, Sampson, and Matta have all had some success. All three have their pro's as well as their con's.

So, we're left with the original question. Who's on your list, Josh?

This "Eric in Scottsdale" fella...glanced and saw this on his timeline. Set aside Nebraska was left out but take this for all it's worth.

Seriously. How many of you believe that one?

In the records kept by Bracket Matrix for 2018 out of the 187 brackets they tabulated 10 had 67 teams picked correctly. And he got 68 of 68? :poop:

From a 2015 Yahoo report on Marshall:

"Sources told Yahoo Sports that Marshall already had signaled Alabama not to waste its energy putting together a whopper offer for his services, because he had his eyes on Texas. So this conceivably could be a short courtship – if anything can get done simply in Austin."

Rick Barnes had just been fired.
Do I use the hashtag #FakeNews here? :D No. Seriously.

That piece came out on Friday. Marshall met with Battle the following Monday.

The next day after that piece was published we find out Texas wasn't targeting Marshall but they were after Shaka Smart.

Following that meeting Monday with Battle, Marshall met with WSU officials Tuesday and his new deal was announced Wednesday.

In the end the coach that Yahoo reported having turned Bama down ... wasn't the top target of the school he reportedly turned down Bama for... and he turned down Bama because that's the job he was most interested in having?

(On a different note: I haven't seen Pat Forde have his finger on much happening with collegiate athletics since his daughters started swimming at Stanford.)

@TerryP ...so whats your opinion of a highly successful women’s coach...
I don't know how that would work out. A lot of external factors would have to be weighed, right?

One thing that comes to mind is how people will feel about a female and access to the locker rooms. As much as people get up in arms about unisex bathrooms, I'd have to think there would be a group against the hire because we'd be looking at a female being around a men's locker room a lot, right? I'm thinking it wouldn't sit to well if the first female hired was in the South. Breaking that ground seems more fitting for another area of the country.

Yep. Locker room is "A Thing ". Of course men coach women's b-ball... so its probably worked out with assistant coaches

I'm talking about here, Mr. Hair Splitter. Lol.
Baseball a major sport? I'd say it was a major hire for Bama at the time. I'd have to give him a W for that one as well as Mullen at MSU.

That does bring us to RichRod at AZ. Was that a bad hire in a major sport? In hindsight, yes. At the time I thought it might work (with the understanding Arizona isn't a hotbed for successful college football coaches.)

So far, the consensus I've seen is pretty high on the new volleyball coach but that's certainly not a major sport.

I would love to have Donovan but I realize that its a pipe dream.

With that said if we could somehow land Thad Matta it would be an absolute homerun.

I'd be happy with Musselman, Cronin, or Oats.

If all those turn us down then I'd say bring in Prohm.

I'm with SLO I hope it's not Prohm especially after watching lSU lose to a bad OSU team last night. It's hard to believe they won the Big 12 tournament.

A source familiar with the negotiations told The News that talks continued on Friday but no resolution has been reached.

The issue may seem like semantics, but those semantics may have a strong financial component. The buyout clause in Johnson’s contract drops from the current $8 million to $6 million on April 15, although there have been no specifics released regarding the issues being discussed in the ongoing negotiations. Regardless, it is virtually impossible to imagine any avenue that would allow for Johnson’s return at this point. Several sources indicated that Johnson informed the Alabama players and staff on Thursday that he would not be back next season.

Avery's wife must be running the show on his side.

I'm a casual fan of all sports but I will watch anything with Bama in it. Why can't the commitment be made to be in the mix for every sport that Bama engages in? I believe that when CNS decides to retire from coaching, we need to convince him to be the AD with a mission to make us a force across the board.

Avery is paid like a top 20 coach. The money isn't the problem but the selection of the coach is. The AD and the U of A may have to hang out 3.5 million in the wind and see who's interested. Sounds like the AD is trying to reduce Avery's buyout so he can assist the new coach in buying out his old deal.

Delco guy...……"you can pay me now or you can pay me later"
