TUSCALOOSA -- Curt Cignetti is leaving Alabama to
revive the football program his father once built into a Division II
power.


A source
with direct knowledge of the process confirmed Cignetti would be
introduced Friday morning as the new head coach at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania.


According
to the source, Cignetti flew to Pennsylvania on Thursday when he
interviewed for the job. He accepted an offer Thursday night.


Curt Cignetti would be the
third Crimson Tide assistant to leave the staff since Alabama's 49-7 win
against Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1.


Curt Cignetti's father, Frank
Cignetti Sr., guided the Crimson Hawks to 19 straight top 25
seasons from 1986-2004. Now it is Curt's job to return IUP to
prominence.


Attempts
to reach Curt Cignetti on Thursday were unsuccessful.


The Crimson Hawks fired Lou
Tepper last month after five seasons. He was 36-18 overall, but
just 11-11 the past two seasons.


Curt Cignetti interviewed last month for the opening at
Kent State. His departure comes at a challenging time less than two
weeks before national signing day Feb. 2.


Not only was he wide receivers coach, but also Alabama's
recruiting coordinator. The Tide has what is considered by most
recruiting analysts to be one of the nation's top 2011 signing day

Goes to show they don't have a clue as to what they are talking about.

Hell, we have several coaches on the staff now that have served in the RC role at one school or another. In our case, it's more of an organizational position than it a "talent evaluation" position.

And at this point in the season, the "recruiting coordinator" position is not exactly the most important position for us-- its not like he's a real coach (tho, obviously Cignetti was a coach) all he did was find talent that we needed and tell the other coaches to recruit them. Saban is the only "recruiter" we need right now. Cignetti leaving doesn't make a difference to our targets at this point in time, at least since we don't have any remaining WRs on the board...

Well, first off, yes, I am fairly new here, though I've been here almost all season, thanks for the welcome. But I will just say through my personal experiences, I can confidently say I know that, if I were Isaiah Crowell the loss of Curt Cignetti would not faze me nearly as much as if say the O-coordinator, HC, or RBs coach left. I'm not saying that CCC was useless (partially b/c that wording sounds terrible) but what I'm saying is that Nick Saban et al. need a Recruiting Coordinator more than the recruits need a Recruiting Coordinator-- but I'm just saying that from a non-WR recruit; b/c if I were a WR, it would bother me a little. Really, in a nut shell, CNS is the most important recruiter and right now, the only person that is vital to Bama's recruiting process for the '11 recruits-- I mean, wouldn't CNS sitting across from you in your living room have more of an impact on you than if it was CCC?

I hope that makes sense, I think I'm writing a lot b/c I don't want to just downplay Cignetti's role, but I'm just trying to make my point as clear as possible... Do you disagree with me Terry?
