🏈 AJC Reporting UGA Has Hired Kirby

What happened to Sunday? I have no doubt that Kirby is going, and Kirby is in a good situation because he can now probably ask for more to that it doesn't look like UGA screwed up the negotiations. Saturday evening and Sunday will be when Kirby and his agent lay out his terms for him to accept the role.

Sunday not a good day to drop sports news. Monday is when you capitalize on PR.

Negotiotations are done... I respect that you still think people follow rules/guidelines and that programs will "wait their turn" to get their work done, but that's now how the world works anymore.

This whole thing was organized by Jimmy Sexton. When USCe chased Kirby, he most certainly let UGA know how serious Kirby was about leaving and that this is their chance to get him. Clearly he was and has been UGA's first choice to replace Richt.

They have a deal in place and have agreed on terms. 100% sure of that. There are lots of people who get paid lots of money to handle these things behind closed doors. And I'm also certain that since Saban and Kirby are both rerpresented by Sexton, he is and was aware of everything that happened in this time frame. In fact, I'm sure he helped design the plan of action and gave Kirby permission to do what he's doing with UGA.

I remember having an argument with you about Jacob Coker. It was becoming fairly real that he was transferring to Bama and you believed Bama would never have been in contact with him do to NCAA rules... These are multi million dollar corporations and employees who understand how to get stuff done without breaking rules. Middle men are everywhere. This is no different.

Odd to me that UGA announced the hiring of a firm to handle the search and then let this out about Kirby.

They always announce some firm that's going to handle things... But does it really matter?

UGA hasn't made any type of formal announcement. This could be leaked by Sexton or anyone in the business with something to gain (other coaches representation, etc.)

@TerryP How many practice sessions are allowed between the SECCG and the first round of the playoffs?

I believe there's a limit of 15 ... not sure where I am pulling that thought from though.

As of Saturday night, Saban went to bed thinking Kirby was headed to UofSC. UGA has changed everything.

Here's the kicker here folks.

Because UofSC wanted Kirby, UGA made a move. Put that together. UGA "forced" to make a move due to South Carolina?!?!?

More details coming when I can sit down ... I'm told this morning that Kirby is offering 500K per to Scott. Stupid.

500K from 420K isn't a huge jump. Seems Saban could match and exceed that if he wished.

First of all, Smart will coach out his time in Alabama period. Any other talk is folishness. He will recruit for Georiga and wont recruit for Bama but he will coach out as long as Bama is in it.. if Saban wants him to. There is too much mutual respect and class for anything else.

Secondly, here is what I hope happens with the staff.

I hope he promotes Mel Tucker to Assistant Head Coach and still keeps him with the secondary. Promotes Tosh Lupio to Defensive Coordinator and gives Bo Davis a huge raise.

Tosh is a great on field coach, a tremendous recruiter, is young and hungry and can grow up in the position like smart did. Mel just came from the NFL and has been a defensive coordinator and I would bet he is looking to eventually get a HC job. Why not study directly under the best.

Bo Davis has done a great job and deserves a major raise and promotion.. don't know what you call it.

I just think if we don't promote Tosh we will lose him and he is a superstar in the making.

To quote that old windbag Rush Limbaugh: "Mega dittos!"

That decision has not been made; by anyone.

That's in discussions now. Something to consider here ... UGA was paying their S&C guy around 200K with incentives. Is McGarity going to go along with 400K? If Kirby is willing to put that on the table, it tells me that UGA is bending over backwards to give him anything he wants.

The point everyone is missing here.

South Carolina ... South Carolina forced this move on Georgia. South Carolina!

I heard some speculation today that some folks with UGA (boosters, fans, or something) let it leak that Smart was getting the job, and that Smart didn't want it to get out until Sunday. The reasoning for them doing so was that they thought by doing that, it would cause a distraction that could negatively effect Alabama and their chances to win an SEC and National Championship.

I don't know if that is remotely the case, just thought it was interesting.

So what is Smart's most important hire as the HC?

I'm thinking his OC will be the most important. So who does he get?

There is one guy who can help not just on the offensive side, but a guy with HC experience to also help Kirby along the way. There is a guy who is good friends with Kirby and has gotten to be even better friends over the last 2 years. There is a guy who may want to showcase his offense with full control over everything offense related instead of being somewhat limited by his current HC (who he does respect and wants to learn from).

Can you name Smart's choice for the new OC of UGA
