Alabama is the No. 1 team in the country, but an injury to quarterback A.J. McCarron would hurt the team's chances of winning its third national championship in a row.

The Crimson Tide are set to start the season off with a game against Virginia Tech at the Georgia Dome. However, the quarterback was seen wearing a walking boot when he arrived at the stadium. ESPN's Cole Cubelic provided an image of the player (see above).

While McCarron has not been on any injury report, he did bruise his foot earlier in the month. According to Cliff Kirkpatrick of USA Today, the senior was stepped on during a scrimmage.

Apparently, this is something that is still bothering him enough to be wearing protective gear while off the field.

If the quarterback were to miss any amount of time, it would be a devastating blow to Alabama's season. The veteran player has been the starter for each of the past two seasons, and has totaled 5,956 passing yards with 49 touchdowns.

Last season, he was one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country while totaling 30 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

This solid play has helped him lead the Tide to a 25-2 record over the past two seasons with two national championships.

With a veteran leader under center and All-American level talent all over the field, Alabama is once again expected to contend for a BCS title.

If McCarron were unable to play due to the apparent foot injury, the team would be left in the hands of junior Blake Sims, who has only thrown 10 passes in his career.
