🧑‍🍳 Aight. There is a clear divide here. We have to talk about chili.

Mine, no beans, also sweeten mine with a touch of brown sugar to cut the strong tomato acid in the sauce. Sweet Heat Jalapenos are optional and always with 3 cheese grilled cheese or a thin Mexican cornbread.

Blanton's ain't bad but it's gotten over priced imo.
I remember this one due to football.

in '11 when we had the grill liquor guy brought some Luxco by one afternoon. Strong. The retail on it at the time was around $15. I saw some in Total Wine three or four years ago ... up to $60. Pappy 15 has more than doubled. Elijah Craig 18 is nice...it's over $150 now.

Pappy is $800 plus a bottle for the youngest bottle if you can find it. I really like Elijah Craig, especially barrel proof, never tried the 18. Eagle rare is my favorite that is normally obtainable, haven't found the 12 year version yet.

Not the reserve. Just the Pappy 15: two bills at the Total Wine west of the Ashley.
No beans in chili, I like adding heat, so I’ll usually grill some jalapeños to cut up and add.
Here's my big issue (covers a lot of food.)

Heat is a spice, yes. I, like you, enjoy heat in food.

HOWEVER, far too many people use ingredients that heat a dish up while thinking it is also adding flavor.

That's the lowest price I've heard of. All the places I've traveled I've checked a lot of liquor stores, it's rare to find it and I've never found it below $800. If I was in the area I'd grab a bottle or 2. State stores sell it at retail like that but it's allocated and people stand in line for a day to buy it or they do a lottery system and you have to get picked. Resellers have made it all but impossible to get. I wish they made you break the seal with allocated bourbon before you could leave the store.

Now you have me doubting my memory. Granted, it's been a minute. I can't tell you how long. It wasn't this year.

It's funny. We were in the truck. It was the summer because I remember getting my sandals wet. Gas was more than a 24oz can of Yeungling. Dennis was driving because I had to go in the store for the beer.

And now I'm wondering if we had the truck over there in '23.

Damn.

FWIW, I think you're talking about the Reserve. Unless I'm just getting things confused. It's definitely possible. Thanksgiving, peace pipe, and all.

Just dawned on me. I've been in one liquor store this year: the same twice. Local, just opened, and walked in when the owner was "modeling" the place. The second time he'd opened...bought a mini-bottle of Fireball which I in turn gave to the guy who empties the outside trash at the 7-11. Nice guy.

@It Takes Eleven you were here in the spring of '24, right? K, if that's right, it would be the last time I "DRANK."

Found this from 2021. It's 2011 vs 2021.

Yeah and that's retail, almost impossible to find. I've drank buffalo trace and eagle rare for years. Eagle rare got to where you hardly ever saw it unless you went to an allocated sale or knew someone, then it got where buffalo trace wasn't on the shelves. Whole bourbon craze was ridiculous. It made me find some different good bourbon though as there was no way I was paying resale prices. It's eased off over the last 6 months or so, hope it continues to improve.

I enjoy bourbon. I have four. But, it's never been that drink for me.

For years, years back to the late 80's, I've just been a Scotch guy. A guy I met in Memphis, David Norris, was the one that "turned me on" to the drink. We used to smoke a little, have a Scotch, and then play chess for a couple of hours a few times a week. I've stuck with all three through the years. 🙃

Neat? Rocks?

Normally rocks, I'll try a new high end bourbon neat or with a splash of water. I like good scotch but prefer good bourbon. There are a lot of good bottles of both out there but a bunch of trash too, especially bourbon. Too many people tried to jump on the bandwagon and just put junk in a bottle.
