Agiye Hall is not an academic building at Oxford or some-such. No, if Saturday’s Alabama spring game is any indication, Agiye Hall is more important than that.

From time-to-time Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban is wont to point out that over the past two seasons Bama has had four first round NFL draft choices at the receiver positions – Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III already gone and DeVonta Smith and Jalen Waddle to be selected later this month.

Anyone who has been paying attention can point out that Saban is not caught empty-handed when another batch of top Alabama players heads off to professional football. Already known among the Tide receiving corps are juniors John Metchie III (who didn’t participate this spring as he rehabilitates), Slade Bolden, and Xavier Williams; and sophomores Javon Baker, Traeshon Holden, and Thaiu Jones-Bell. They have seen playing time, albeit some of it quite limited.

Those who attended Saturday’s A-Day Game wanted to see new players, notably quarterbacks Bryce Young and Paul Tyson. (They wanted to see freshman enrolleee Jalen Milroe, too, but he was unable to play.)

Also unveiled was a receiving group of early enrollees , all Floridians -- JáCorey Brooks (6-2, 190, Miami), Christian Leary (5-10, 185, Orlando), and Agiye Hall (6-3, 195, Valrico).

Brooks and Leary did not have receptions Saturday. For the most part, Young (25-44 for 333 yards), Tyson (18-34 for 171 yards, and Braxton Barker (4-8 for 74 yards) targeted returning wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs. Holden had 9 receptions for 89 yards, running back Jase McClellan 7-62, Bolden 5-56, running back/wide receiver Roydell Williams 4-65.

But the receiving star of the show was Agiye Hall. It’s not just that Hall made 4 catches for 72 yards with a long of 37 yards. It was how they were made, excellent catches under tight coverage.

Hall’s first reception in the second quarter was a sideline catch for 37 yards from Barker. In the third quarter he had catches of 28 (wiped out by penalty) and 7 yards from Tyson on a 12-play drive that resulted in a 48-yard field goal by Chase Allen that tied the game at 10-10. Hall’s final receptions from Tyson in the fourth quarter were for 10 yards (reduced to 7 after a penalty) and on a crossing route that gained 21 yards.

Hall is not a surprise. He was ranked the No. 56 overall player and No. 7 wide receiver in the nation in the 247 Composite.

Alabama’s was the only Southeastern Conference spring game nationally televised and during the ESPN contest Saban said, “Agiye Hall is a really good freshman prospect. We’re trying to move him around some so we can get him the ball more.

“He’s one of the most explosive players on this team.”

Later he added, “He’s got good size, makes a lot of contested catches, got juice, can run downfield.”

In the end, however, not even Agiye Hall could avoid an Alabama spring football tradition. The White won the game, 13-10. That team earned a steak dinner. The Crimson was served beans and weenies.

Guy is a freak of nature. And he should be in high school right now. He caught balls all around him. Especially good on under thrown balls. I wager this kid will be starting come the Miami game.

One of his Instagram posts was sharing of another post where it said something along the lines of "you won't get the chance to succeed at Bama". I'm assuming that was a comment made to him on the recruiting trail somewhere along the line. Still love seeing these guys use that as motivation to show those others wrong. That's who succeeds at Alabama, the guys not scared to make their own path and those not deterred by the words of another. Love it.
