Did the barn get 2 first down plays? I hate to bring this up but I work with a huge barn fan and I just mentioned that I thought they had scored on 4th down. I have look at the dvr many times. :headscratch:

Check out the SEC network's replay of the game and you can see that at the 16:38 mark of the telecast AU gets the 1st and goal after the Woodall penalty. 1st and goal from the 8.

1st and goal 8 yd line--Tate for 6 yards.

1st and goal 2yd line--direct snap to Tate for 1.

2nd and goal 1 yd line--pitch to Tate no gain.

3rd and goal 1 yd line--pass to Smith TD.

Auburn scored on 4th down. They got an extra down.

The unsportsmanlike foul didnt give AUb a first down (half the distance)


They replayed third down in which Aub gained the yardage needed for the first. They then scored on 3rd and goal

That's what I was looking at as well. But, doesn't a personal foul automatically result in a first down? I thought it did, but am apparently wrong.

I'm with Chop, I thought the OFFICAL signaled 1st and goal after the p foal. I also think unsportsmanlike is a personal foal.

Woodall's penalty was "unsportsmanlike conduct" rather than a PF, which would have been an automatic first.

IM not 100% sure of this but I believe a personal foul consists of a contact foul and includes an automatic first down (roughing kicker/passer, piling on , late hit etc.)

UNsportsmanlike isnt a contact foul and thus not a personal. (no automatic first down)

I've been screaming that since last Friday. You blow the whistle and then when we hear "before the snap, false start #..." and then we hear "after the play, personal foul #27". how the hell can u get a personal foul on a play that never happened. smh

If anything, the refs could've given us a delay of game penalty for throwing the ball down the field.

You can get an unsportsmanlike at any time. For instance a coach (or player) that was abusive to an official at halftime could be given that penalty.

True, but in that instance it seemed a big to do about nothing. There was really very little damage done by Woodall in the grand scheme of things. SEC refs have let far worse go in the past.

I had no prob with the flag. The kid has to control his emotions better IMO.

As was said above, I think a delay of the game penalty, at most, is all that should have been called. The SEC refs have gotten downright goofy about those penalties.
