The year I was born Alabama and Tennessee played to a tie in football. By 1970, even after many years with Bryant coaching the Tide, the series stood tied at 23 wins each and 7 ties. Since then, Bama has won 27 times to notch their 50[SUP]th[/SUP] victory over the Vols in this long, storied rivalry. From 1972 to 1994 Alabama won 18 times.<o

Itās funny how the mind plays tricks, maybe itās my age, but I donāt remember much about 1995 through 2001. Tennessee won seven times in a row, just as Bama has now won seven in a row. We Bama fans can only hope that we are in the midst of another dominant two decade stretch, but with the parity in college football that would be beyond naĆÆve. Tennessee fans can take heart. The series will shift as it always does. Bama fans must celebrate their time of being on top. <o></o>
And, if my age and experience count for anything, I suspect the win will come not when the teams are once again even as they inevitably will be. The UT win will come when Bama is down a bit from now and the Vols are up a bit from these Dooley years. Then, Tennessee can smoke the celebratory cigar. For now, however, Roll Tide.
