Vegas oddsmakers have favored Tennessee one time in the last 16 games—Vanderbilt this season. The Vols have won six games as a dog.

Is the program going to make that next step and move to a team that contends for the east? It's left to be seen.

Based on how they've done in respect to the oddsmakers, they are on the brink of making that move.

What he has done this year was impressive. As much as I hate UT, I have pulled for Pruitt all year. I think the guy can coach, and he has landed some good talent, but really has to recruit well if he plans to compete with UGA/UF. I think they are a couple of years away from being able to make some noise in the east.

I like Pruitt purely based on what he did at UA. I hope he isn’t of the Kirby line and took pics and bashed the program left and right.

I hope he gets the opportunity to fix UT and compete for the east, but that’s it. I hope UA kicks his ass for as long as he’s there. I would die a happy dude if UT never won another championship of any kind

I saw where he said.....this will be the decade of the vols...or some bunch....
2020...... Oklahoma...uga....Florida....bama....
They arent near equal talent wise......with any of these...
So they need to beat one of these.... to move up...
Or if they lose to one of worse group of teams in sec...Missouri, vandy, ky, ark...move down....
They are crowing because the won 5-6 in row....but they only beat....the scrum of sec...and Indiana.....( which coaches lost that for Indiana)...
To move up...the will need an elie QB....and as @rammerjammer said recruit better

I believe 10RC will be around 8-4 again this season but 2021 will be the year they have to step up and get to 10. I don't believe coaching is the problem for JP but getting that roster up to speed is the big hill he has to tackle. You can be very successful with 50 really good football players but you will need some injury luck unlike what Nick has had this cycle.
But. They still have top 3 sec on schedule and ole ms and Oklahoma...
Still will be stuck in middle of SECeast

I agree totally. I remember when Phatimus was lighting up in the 90's there and reading about the lack of talent in the state of Tennessee. It is not as talent rich as Alabama, Memphis being the one hot-spot. If you look back, Phil had Rodney Garner on staff and was able to pull a ton of talent from Georgia, along with cherry picking Alabama/South Carolina and a few other states around. One of the first hires made by Richt at UGA was Garner. That helped him keep in-state kids and we began to see the decline of Fulmer at UT. I think talent is going to be key if Pruitt is to make the move to compete for the east. I don't know if he can do that consistently. May be a situation where he will make a run every 3-4 years with a senior laden team.

I believe Trooper Taylor was the key to Fatboy Phil's recruiting success as well. Pat Dye's bagman Garner gave 10RC 2 good years.
