After reading the linked rankings in this thread a couple of days ago, I figured I would come up with a Top 12 of my own. I will say though, that the passion of the fans in the SEC is part of what makes football here so great. I don't like the, 'in your face' fans, the ones who get out of line after games, or the ones who let their alcohol do their talking... all those types are examples of one that I consider obnoxious. I can handle the good-natured ribbing that comes with rivalry games... without that stuff, those games lose some of that luster in my opinion... just keep it clean and fun... Anyway, here are my top 12... feel free to post your own as some did in the linked thread...
12. Vanderbilt- Vandy fans are no harm to nobody. In most cases, even when you play in Nashville, it is a 50/50 split for prestigious teams like BAMA, Florida, UGA, and LSU. If anything, they are gracious to allow visitors to feel at home while away from home.
11. Kentucky- In basketball, their fans get a little obnoxious, but this isn't a basketball topic. Any team that has 150 foot banners plastered all over the stadium commemorating Music City Bowl victories from past seasons probably isn't going to have fans that run around beating their chest and hollering too loudly, unless they've had too much bourbon. Wildcat fans show up on Saturday's expecting to lose, but hoping to win. Other than the, "Wait until basketball season!!!" cries after the game, their fans put up very little in the way of being obnoxious.
10. South Carolina- I've personally never had an issue with their fans, and I've been around them several times... both in Columbia and Tuscaloosa. They have some goofy game intros in Columbia, but on the obnoxious scale, they hardly register.
9. Ole Miss- If Ole Miss was more of a power player in football, they would be ranked higher in this poll for sure, because their fans can certainly be obnoxious, but unlike some others (such as
UGA and Florida), knowing that their dog has no bite, it is easy to just dismiss them. It's kinda like the Cubs being picked to win the World Series... You know what's going to happen, so just let them talk and have their fun, then sit back and watch the implosion.
8. Alabama- I won't say much about Alabama fans on account of my bias, but we don't deserve to be ranked any higher than #8 just based on Ramp Lady alone.
7. Tennessee- I don't recall ever having been around a group of Tennessee fans that I would consider excessively obnoxious... and that includes several road trips to Neyland Stadium. I will say however that their band is obnoxious, and the most annoying group of instrument wielding clowns in the SEC. Much like Alabama and Auburn, they have more than their fair share of Internet and Radio Rambos, and those types are certainly annoying... but as a whole, the fan base just isn't that bad to be around at a game.
6. auburn- Much like Tennessee fans (and even Alabama fans), if you are around them in a game atmosphere (from my experience anyway) they pretty much keep to themselves unless provoked, other than the good-natured rivalry inspired ribbing of course. They obviously have a chip on their shoulder about Alabama, so any time they beat us in anything, they are going to get obnoxious, but that's just part of it.
5. Arkansas- Hog fans are a little hard for me to rank. I've been around them at times and had no issues, and been around them at times and wanted to throw chairs at them... In my experiences though, after they lose, they pretty much shut down and get the hell out. If they win though, they crank up the obnoxiousness like very few can. Their, "Wooo, Pig Sooie!" call is the verbal equal to MSU's cowbells. If the CIA could make a mix tape of the two and play pump it into the Pakistani mountains and caves, those Taliban clowns would be surrendering in droves.
4. Mississippi State- I suppose a loser program deserves loser fans. Mississippi State is the wart on the SEC's ass, and their fans are our village idiots. Like Ole Miss, if they were more of a player in the grand scheme of things, they would definitely be top 2 on this list, but considering the fact that they aren't [and I present Exhibit A on that argument...
], it is hard to put them any higher than 4th. On the other hand, even if their fans were deaf mutes, the cowbells alone would be worthy of a ranking of 5th... so I figure 4 is about where they belong. Where they differ from Ole Miss is, they have even less tradition, are less educated, less refined, and their women are ugly. On a side note, MSU's band is in a tough battle with Tennessee's for the most annoying (a.k.a. obnoxious) in the conference.
3. Florida- Thanks to Spurrier and Meyer, these clowns have had a lot of success in the past 20 years. That success has gone to their heads, and while I think the older generation of Gator fans are a pretty good group, the younger ones (18-40) are a bunch of annoying maroons (2 cents to Bugs Bunny). Granted, they have some rings and trophies in the case, but the fan base still hasn't ever had a perfect season to celebrate. They inflate their self worth in the SEC as much as anyone not named Ole Miss. And like LSU and Georgia (coincidentally, as the clip will show), they have way too many fans like this wandering around...

2. Georgia- As a whole, folks around the country, and the SEC even, don't realize just how trashy Georgia fans are (both literally and figuratively). They are bottom of the barrel, but for whatever reason, seem to be given a pass. Maybe it is because they have Mark Richt for their coach and everyone thinks he's some sort of a saint, I don't know. What I do know, is their fans suck. Just look at how they trash their own campus! Trashy tailgating aside, a good percentage of their fans are a displeasure to be around.
1. LSU- They just barely edge out UGA fans for the "most obnoxious" fans. It should be pointed out that they can also be very friendly when tailgating amongst them (offering up free food and drink, etc.), but in terms of ratio (or behaved fans:obnoxious fans), they have more than anyone. They like to have a good time, and their fans can be funny at times... they understand what the college football atmosphere is all about (when they are winning), but they just have wayyyy too many goofballs that take things a little too far at times.
