🏈 A difficult preparation for the defense. "This is what I'm used to as an NFL coach."

Nick Saban's words from yesterday on preparing his defense for Arkansas.

Petrino shapes his offense to fit his players. He had a true proto-type NFL offense last year, due to a proto-type QB in Mallett.

This year the statue in the pocket is gone, we have two mobile QBs who have combined for over 100 yards rushing thus far.

We'll likely see a very pro-type offense again tomorrow, we sure have the WRs for it, but there could be more.

Petrino hasn't had to show how he'll use a mobile QB on roll outs, etc,

Since spring, we tried a number of things, the pistol formation, running some option with Brandon Mitchell at QB, we ran the no huddle offense with a pretty quick pace to open vs Troy, (3 drives, 31 plays, 270 yards 3 tds). We've put Joe Adams in the backfield, not unlike Percy Harvin.

A pro-style offense that aims to run-pass 50/50 (114-110 so far this year), that can branch off in a few different directions.

Question: Does Saban typically make a plea to fans for crowd noise as he did yesterday?

He knows his plate is full.

I don't under-estimate him, Saban is a great coach, I'm anxious to see how we can do against him.

You are reading too much into his comments. He asked for crowd noise just two years ago against a hapless MSU team..

He is a damn good coach and he never quits. You are looking for silver linings in the wrong place.

Arkie, we run a pro style offense with the pistol, wildcat, 4-5 wide, etc. The defense sees it everyday! It will not be some great bomb that hits Saturday afternoon and shell shocks the D.

Not really! The Bama defense sees a pro style offense all the time. They will not be fooled by Arkansas one bit.

I'm just citing Saban's own words, that the preparation will be difficult because preparing for Arkansas is like preparing for an NFL offense, he doesn't say that about any other team does he?

More of his own words, and I paraphrase: "Arkansas has had more success against us then anyone else." (and I believe that was in the context of an offense able to get what it wants against his D.)

maybe it's just coachspeak, maybe he's just telling the truth.

fwiw, I don't think you can accurately simulate in practice everything arkansas is going to do come tomorrow.

we as arkansas fans are in the dark about what our offense will look like this year, we've been in pure preseason mode.

Bobby scripted a 20-7 lead to start last year, I don't know what it'll look like this year, but I bet he's got a heck of a script for the first 20 plays tomorrow, can't wait to see it.

Dude we've seen that offense for as long as Petrinos been there, the defense isn't going to be surprised by it...looks like to me ur trying to convince yourself...and he was talkin bout crowd noise last week before north Texas so that was an awful example...he mainly was talkin bout that because he gets mad when fans leave early.

We all understand Arkansas is a good team...and so r we...u Arkansas fans just seem o be trying too hard to convince us that it seems like ur trying to convince yourself.

The bold statement reminds me of something Saban said prior to his first meeting with Arkansas, back when McFadden and company were still there. Some media type asked Saban who was simulating McFadden in practice, he commented that if he had anyone who could simulate McFadden he'd be playing.

Scheme wise, and even trick play wise I don't think we see anything we haven't seen. Guys like Adams and Childs executing the plays are the issue.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino is one of the best offensive minds in the game, and his offenses are about as multiple as it gets. How much do you think the Hogs have shown on offense this season?
NS: They kind of do what they do. They don’t hold back. I think his theory is more, ‘I’m going to throw all these multiples out there and make you have to prepare for this myriad of things,’ half of which you’re not going to see in the game. But it’s going to keep you from practicing what you are going to see very much, because he has so much stuff. They don’t do it in every game. He picks what he’s going to do against you. Just like last year, we practiced our [butt] off against an empty backfield, and they didn’t go empty against us one time in the game, I don’t think. But up until that time, they’d been empty all over the lot. So, you take all that time we practiced against empty, and we should have been practicing against something else.

As discussed, other than a few Hog wrinkles, we will control them handily. I'm afraid Mr. Saban has Mr. Petrinos number
Dude... Recruit much??? Follow it and you will see the main reason the tide wins...

Arkansas simply can NOT compete on the recruiting front, fertile recruiting grouds etc... That we are able to compete is a testament to Coach Bobby Petrinos ability and leadership...

Rev... Preach much?? You sure try to attack when you disagree with others opinion.

Your beloved coach has yet to beat a Bama team. It's not completely about the horses. Saban could probably take your'n and beat his'n. He's just a better coach.

Agreed we do have better players this year and more depth but execution will win the ball game... and I think that has more to do with coaching.

BTW. Does anybody know the over/ under on how many headphones that coach Bobby will destroy tomorrow? I m saying 2

Man, not trying to be rude at all... Message board postings come of way different than if in person... But I do disagree with you on this bit.. I think we have two of the best coaches in college football... NOT NFL FOR SURE.. lol...

the one thing we have different is recruiting ability. These other hawg fans that believe we can be at the top every year are dillusional imho... recruiting isn't everything, but it is a very important part... and we disagree on the turnabout as well.. Saban can't win like he does at bama without such recruiting ability or area. One example is the losses of last season.... I believe the hogs had less losses than bama last year.. right??? and we didnt have those 5* recruits you have either..

Either way, it is fun to blah, blah, blah about online... WPS.. and Cheers!

Just out of curiosity...what would you expect Saban to say about an opposing team?..."well, we have better athletes, better coaching...we're at home, and an 11 point favorite...we're going to pretty much just march out there and stomp them in to the ground."

I mean, really? He was saying similar stuff about North Texas last week. It's coach-speak. Any coach does it. When have you ever heard Saban, Petrino or any reputable coach NOT talk up the other team.

If you really read in to this stuff all the time like you are now, you'd also believe that the New England Patriots are the worse team in the NFL. Because that's what Bill Belichek tells that media week in an week out.
