Hurts looks like the man to me. Absolutely no doubt in my mind if he has a year under his belt right now he wins the job. I doubt CNS would give the keys to the car to a TF under any circumstances, but Hurts has more ability than the others IMO.

He has a different look in his eye IMO. The game does not appear to be moving as quickly for him as the other QB's. He is ahead of every QB on the roster relative to when they were all freshmen... by miles.

He has the ability to make a big difference with his legs. If he is able to get the O in the right play, and not turn the ball over (which it sounds like thats what he has done all spring) he is clearly the most deadly of the QB's.

BB8 is a turnover machine. Bateman is so boring. Cornwell will never be the guy.

I'm sure when the season starts it will be boring Bateman, but IMO Hurts is the man.

Everyone that is about to say "yeah but Hurts did not have BigTimeTimmyJim up his as$ the entire game" that kinda proves the point... Hurts is the only one that could have eluded or ran away from BigTimeTimmyJim.
 
It's important to evaluate based on decision-making, not play-making. IMO, the rule book didn't provide any of the QBs an opportunity to perform. Hurts had more opportunity but I think that was to let Saban evaluate more.

I see potential in all. Again, in my opinion, BB tries too hard, Cornwell doesn't seem to have an urgency, Bateman knows the offense but needs to be unshackled and Hurts has a lot of upside but will need to make faster decisions.

And didn't Hurt go against #2 D? On top of that the #1 Oline look like a HS team vs #56 ;) I don't think it was a very good evaluator of who will be the best. Personally, I think they all looked pretty poor looking at the total performances... but I really didn't expect anything less.
 
They all looked worse than I was expecting....or hoping. Okay, Hurts actually looked better than I was expecting. Maybe he will evolve over the Summer. Film, practice on his own with the receivers, etc.
 
We saw glimmers of brilliance followed by inexperienced decisions. Our QB play has never "wowed" anyone in the Spring. Of the 4, Cornwell seemed to struggle most. Bateman sort of reminds you of a McElroy. He isn't going to blow you away but gets the job done. Barnett and Hurts have the greatest upside, but poor decisions will hold them back. I'm good with whomever Kiffin and Saban give the keys to. I think that once the keys fall in one guys hand, we will see the QB position excel just like it did the last 2 years.
 
Why is Hurts being lumped into the "poor decision" category with BB8 ? I have heard nothing but positive things about Hurts all spring. He seemed like he was at least as composed as Bateman if not more so.

IMO, Hurts athleticism made him look good. He needs to learn to get rid of the ball. I don't think he was bad, but he's not ready to lead the team.
 
Blows my mind that we don't have a single QB who can look competent today. Yes the defense is amazing... But there's a ton of talent on offense too along with the knowledge that they literally cannot hit you, so you'd think someone would convert a few third downs. That Defense will make a lot of dudes look bad but there was plenty of opportunities to make throws and they were never made.

Hurts looked the least bad by far. Good on him for being so competitive already but it's sad to think all those other 4/5 star guys can look that bad 2/3/4 years in. Goodness gracious.

Hopefully Saban can work around depending on the QB again... Every A Day they seem to look this bad and yet he finds a way to get it done by Fall. Don't see any reason next year will be much different if the D stays healthy

Remember that the offensive scheme for today was vanilla. Kiffin wasn't allowed to pull out is magic. If you look at every Spring game in the country, you won't find too many QBs with outstanding days.
 
I agree that our A-day games make the QB look much worse than they really are but I agree with @T&B, Hurts had the best day of them all. If I had to make a decision today to start someone next week based solely on their A-day performance, it would be Hurts.

I also agree with @uagrad93 I'll be satisfied with whoever the staff decides to start.

I also noticed for the first time the "hitch" or whatever you call it in BB8 release. Looked like to me the tip of the ball points down when he releases it. But the receivers caught more of them so maybe that don't matter.

Poor decisions include holding on to the ball and taking a sack instead of getting rid of it. Saban was caught talking to Hurts about it on camera. That improves with experience. BB8 is believed by many to be the next AJ, so he has a shitload of pressure on him, either by us, the fans, or himself. His decisions are a result of pressing to make that big play.
 
He only started holding the ball too long after (according to sideline commentary) he was maybe told to stop scrambling, and sit in the pocket and make his reads. In the first half he would look, and if there was nothing there he would immediately tuck and run. I think the coaches shackled him in the second half because they wanted to see him read the defense, and try to make a throw not just tuck and run.

With that said he completed what looked to be about 7-8 passes in a row in the second half. He was definitely moving the ball better than any of the others.
 
I did hear CNS giving Hurts a "teachable moment." In the two minute Drill Hurts wanted to fight for inches instead of step out of bounds and save seconds. I think he may wind up being Bama's first Heisman Trophy Candidate from the QB position, but not this year.

I more than understand this... Wasn't expecting RG3 at Baylor numbers. Just hoping for a competent QB performance and maybe a few nice third down conversions. Qbs looked horrendous today regardless of how many excuses, reasons, jive you want to come up with
