šŸˆ A day later, I ponder if we’re overreacting to Alabama’s loss at FSU.

Two teams who had very underwhelming seasons and a program who just came off a 2-10 season. We looked for improvements in year two under DeBoer, but unfortunately, it looks like the same problems persists. Self-inflicted penalties that extend drives; poor leadership; and obvious lack of preparation. All the talk of accountability seems to have gone out the window.

I hope they do man. I just don't have faith in deboer and this staff right now. They gotta earn that back.
Yes.

I’m actually kinda worried about this game really.

We should come out and run up and down the field on them, but to even have a slight bit of hesitation is not good.

Wisconsin isn’t going to be a cakewalk by any means. We need this ULM and Wisconsin wins bad. Can’t drop either of these.

This season is really weird already

We could go full retard and end up like 2-10 or I can see us going even more full retard and being 11-1. In other words, I have no idea what to expect from this team. I’m pretty worried about the ULM game

I don't know either man. We'll see soon.

effort (which is a player issue)
I partially agree with this... I think the Jonathan Alan type leaders would not put up with this but I also do not think the coaches should either. Sit them and send a message this is not acceptable and how we do things. If the coaches are not doing that they are enabling it. First I heard about effort from the pre season chatter. Hard to believe effort would ever be a problem at Alabama and just 2 years removed from CNS but it appears tape that is the case. When I was watching the game it seemed like players were slow but I was not connecting that as effort but I guess it can be. These players appear to be more about NIL and impressed with podcasts than putting in the work required to win. Again still completely different than the off season chatter.

If we can't get off the field on defense, then we're in a world of shit. The pressure felt by TY to score each time he took the field really got to him. Once he and us realized that our defense couldn't make stops then it was over. The offensive play calling changed to full panic mode.

Oh, some were definitely slow too... out of position or too busy thinking/chasing eye candy. I think for many, frustration leads to effort issues... And I think coaches can rip them a new ass, bench them, or whatever... and it may fix the issue, but IMO it is usually a temporary fix. Ultimately, the player must make the choice on his own to change his behavior. There must be some internal motivation to leave it all on the field, every play. And I'm sure that's a lot easier said than done, but with the physical limits they are pushed to in the offseason with things like the 4th quarter program, it really just boils down to the mental side of it. I'd hope though that DeBoer, each coordinator, and each position coach made it a point to single the guys out that loafed and didn't give 100% in both team and position meetings. Because there were some that did give it their all, and nothing should piss those guys off more than looking around at the ones that didn't. And those guys, if they have any self-respect, should feel like losers for being called out for such in the first place.

Been a bit since I’ve said something here….

I kind of expected the defense to give up plays. Gus’s offense needs the right QB. He has that. So I figured they’d make some plays. Or should I say give up yardage. Especially being the first game. What I didn’t expect was what we saw from the offensive side of the ball. Not sure if it was from play design or what, but I don’t recall seeing Ty having a check down option or him not using it. I will need to watch again since I was kind of irate and had to start drinking lol. Either way, it was one game and out of conference. No real room for error going forward but success is still achievable.

You should be worried and worry about every game. Team is not motivated. Why bust your a$$? I’ve already got $, if coaches do something I don’t like, I will transfer. These kids raised in world where ā€œits all about meā€, so I don’t see them caring about team mates and being accountable.

Yes, fans are overreacting like hell. These same issues were rearing their head during Saban’s last year or so, as I said in another thread a culture change needs to happen kind of like when Saban first got to UA. Are we going to win the natty? Maybe not, but I still believe we’ll be successful.

I'll say this... maybe it's some weird coincidence, or maybe it's something more. But this is a fact: Nobody played harder on Saturday than the 2 UW transfers (and DeBoer "guys"), Germie Bernard and Parker Brailsford. I'll even add another UW guy in Josh Cuevas and make it a trio. He too played his ass off from what I saw.

Oh how people forget. Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe in 2007 and pretty sure he turned out to be a pretty decent t coach, but I could be wrong, so this DeBoer has lost 3 of 4 and all that is silly.
I appreciate the positive outlook.... but that was a whole other situation compared to now. I'm gonna try to remain positive, but it's difficult to right now.

He's going to get an opportunity to make changes, at DC specifically. If/when that happens, it'll most likely be a hire that decides his future at UA, so he better make it a good one if he's in it for the long haul. But worst case this year, that's where it's headed. And maybe that's enough. I don't know. Only time will tell.

Agree with this. Odd to me because I would expect players from CNS era to compete and give it their all. I still am not sure how much is effort but more about being confused so they are not playing fast. They played with uncertainty which looks slow. For Lawson I believe the injurey has slowed him a step or two. He likley knows exactly what to do but the injury has just slowed him. Complete speclation of course on my part.

It did what it was designed to do. That is on the coaches in my view. People not being prepared well by the coaches so they are not playing with confidence so they will be a step slow and out of position.

You know last year the D got better but then would have the unexplainable game lapses especially on the road.

I hope it works if he does. Because I can't sit through another game like Saturday watching this defense play as poorly as they did anymore. And if this season goes the way it seems to be trending, I don't know if I can stomach another season of this. There's a reason I haven't done any film study in the game, because I went back and watched it, and just sat there seething for about an hour.
