IMO, it isn't overreacting when the issues we saw on Saturday were the exact same type of issues we saw in Bama's losses last season. The belief was, many of those issues were fixed. However, the evidence shows that not only were they not fixed, they may have spread and become rooted. And I'm talking mostly about 3 things... effort (which is a player issue), lack of fundamentals and physicality (which is player and coach issue) and lack of preparedness (mostly on defense, which is a coaching issue that also can bleed over to players).
What I'm having a difficult time squaring is the effort issues, the loafing, the guys who almost seem scared of contact out there.
One thing I'm not overly concerned with (yet?) is the offense, specifically Simpson. He didn't have a great first game, but it also wasn't terrible. There's plenty to build on there and I suspect he will.
But above all else, whether it is teammates holding others accountable or the staff pushing buttons they might not usually push, the effort and overall intensity must get turned up. Ultimately, it's up to the individual player though. And I just can't wrap my mind around why it is a team wide issue that appears to be growing like a cancer.
