Tyrone King, Leigh Tiffin, and PJ Fitzjerald were all awarded scholarships week. Congrats to all 3!

Cool. I hope that by by 2013 CNS is (still here, and) is willing to use a scholly for my long snapper!

EDIT: I hope he can play center as well, but given the size of the behemoth OLs these days in D-1, I don't know that he will ever be taller than 6'2", so we are hitting the protein, good carbs, and weights hard, and long snapping every chance we get.

Dude, your boy could sign with the Barn THIS year.

PJ huh? All three well deserved. :D

Kind of thought he would use all those extra scholarships for the next class, but they deserve a one just as much as anyone.

He still can assuming he is just giving it to them for this season.

Ah so with walk-ons the scholarships have to be rewarded yearly? Or are you thinking he might use their scholly for a recruit if needed?

Well, they are renewable every year just like any other player's scholarship. I'm not for sure what Saban's plans are in this case, but he could take them all back off scholarship next summer to free up 3 more spots if needed. Or, he might have told them that they are good to go until they graduate (all 3 are juniors) and then it will free up 3 additional spots after the 2009 season. With the numbers crunch that the team is looking at again next year though, I'd be surprised if they were promised anything more than 1 season on scholarship... especially for 2 of those 3, but that is just me guessing, nothing more.

Gotcha, just making sure it wasn't differet with walk-ons. One thing we can be sure of which pretty much goes without beind said, Coach Saban has a plan. Whether or not he'll reuse those scholarships we'll see. I kind of figured Tiffin was well off, but this might be more of a statement for his hard work. When you think about it, all it will take is two of those RV's to be sold and he has a full ride.

As for PJ, I wanted to remain positive but he was somewhat of a surprise.

I thought Tiffin qualified for the Bryant Scholarship.

His father came to Alabama in '83, so Leigh doesn't qualify for one.

Even if he did, because he played as a frosh, he would have counted against the 85.

Porter, how did a 5'10" guy get a scholly?

I am pretty sure that Tyrone King could count as a Bryant Scholarship. I think he is a senior, so we could give him the recognition of being one of the "85" and still use it for next year's class.

True. His father played for Coach Bryant, '72-'75.
