šŸˆ 247Sports' @JoshPateCFB says Nico Iamaleava & others threatened to opt out of last season's CFB playoffs unless they were paid more NIL money:

For sure. I hate the crowds now, used to enjoy going but now I just don't want to be around that many people. Seems my distaste for crowds grows every year.
Its the excitement generated by the crowds that do make a difference. Like it or not....
Been to a 1AA championship game....it was just a championship football game...sure wasnt the excitement of a bama national championship game. Meant same. Different level. But still....

There can by 9 people in the stands of a college baseball game and it's still a good game. I'm with @Krimson here. I love the fact of 100K plus Bama fans getting together to support the team. I don't want to be one of those 100K+. I've been there; done that.

Now, there are exceptions. IE: A trip to Wisky to watch Bama play there. That's worth the trip. To see Bama play in New Orleans. Nah. Been there.

I guess I'm growing into a curmudgeon. Looking at the four bags of trash from yesterday, I'm not.

Damn, my grill is dirty.

I've said since the beginning of the whole NIL thing...

It's fine if they players want to get paid. I honestly think they SHOULD get paid. The school is making money off of them, and they should get a part of that. I know a lot of people disagree with me on that...even some on here. But it is what it is and I think people should get paid if their likeness is allowing an institution to make money off of it. That said...

The NCAA should have put a cap on how much these guys can make. By allowing them to set the price, they're essentially free agents in the world of college football. Yes, allow them to make money. But the amount of money should be limited. That would put a stop to them shopping around to different schools just to see how much money they can make. If they want to make more, then they can get an agent and start making money with NIL deals in other ways (commercials, product endorsements, etc.). There are plenty of pro athletes/coaches who do that (Nick Saban and Deion Sanders in the AFLAC commercials, for instance).

Nick Saban's salary was quite substantial, but the bulk of it didn't come directly from the University of Alabama. It came in the form of endorsements, bonuses, etc. For yeas, he did Ford truck commercials (as did the head coach at that other school). Then he started doing the AFLAC commercials. And I'd be willing to bet it wasn't cheap to get him and Deioin Sanders to do those commercials.

Shouldn't they at least own some of it? I agree the adults and leadership owns a big chunk be we let people off the hook for personal responsibility way to easily.

If someone makes the mistake in giving you money and continues to give you money, I don't see that as your fault. It takes the one paying out the money to make a decision. No different than in business. I will work my scope out and if a guy wants to pay me more money for that scope, that's on him. Now, If I perform 75% of the scope and refuse to finish unless I get paid more money, then there is an issue. And that is the issue with the story being thrown out there. Maybe the school should hold retainage?

You got me thinkin' this morning. (expletive word) you for that. It's got me thinking of when I was in school and fellow classmates said, "wouldn't it be great if we can get all these different people together."

I get the sentiment but I don't get the excitement. I'm there to watch the game and it never seems to fail that I end up sitting around some loud/drunk morons who think they should be coaching even though they couldn't spell football. I only go because my wife likes the atmosphere. I enjoy the high school atmosphere a lot better usually.

I just don't like to do crowds anymore at any event. Music, give me a small venue over an arena any day.

I definitely fear where all of this is headed. I don't think the NCAA has the backbone to pass nor enforce anything and I damn sure don't believe or trust congress to handle it (nor really should they have to). I think we're ultimately headed to the P4 splitting away from the NCAA and just dropping all the pretenses and straight up paying salaries. At that point, we're probably going to see athletic programs closing because football won't be able to fund them anymore. Then, if the NCAA allows what's left of the G5 teams to do the same, entire athletic programs would probably have to close and certainly certain sports would. Change can be good but it can also really suck.

Some of the worst fights I've ever seen were at high school games lol Let alone the youth football games.

I don't have an issue with anyone leaving a job for more money but I hate to see a person in a team sport try to hold out for more money. If you want to transfer under the rules I don't blame them, don't like it either but it's a business now, but leave when the windows open and be honest with your employer about it.

College ball has lost a lot of it's appeal to me, missed a few games last year that I normally wouldn't have and will probably miss them again this year. Turning into something I just don't like.

Honestly, the last season I REALLY got into was probably 2018. It's not fun to watch anymore. The thing I enjoy most is talking to fans of the sport.

Josh. Good to see ya around the table.

We are there. Revenue sharing...where there's a shit load of revenue balanced (or not) against a shit load of expenses. People don't get...Bama loses money. It was millions last season.

True but it's usually between folks that know each other or opposing fans talking crap. I usually don't fit in the first group and I'm not in the second. If I'm watching a live game I'll take high school small town games. I don't want to go to a Hoover vs Thompson game.

I went to John Missik football games when he was coaching at Summerville. I didn't go in the stands. I stood at the track. It's too crazy up there with high school parents. They are nuts. Look him up on wins in high school football. Yeah. He's the "Golden Bear." I met him in the late 90's in Perry's place...over a hot dog.

It's surreal thinking about it. What bowl game was it Bama lost with "Money" missing the kick? Or was that a win versus TTU? I can't remember. I can't put the memory back together right now.

I DO remember watching Coach Missik and Perry Cuda talking about field goals...while eating one of his hot dogs. It was the romantic side of football....if that makes sense.
