Just watching that game last night, it is obvious that

Our RB's are not where near the level of IU 1 or 8
Our DL isn't at the level of UM 3 or 4
IU OL is pretty good, but they were in a real fistfight with the UM DL (excellent coaching by Miami in addition to talent
Curt runs the entire show on that staff. He is special.

Tennessee just hired the S&C from Indiana. They were dissatisfied with their DC and went out and got a new one too. Meanwhile, we look to have zero movement in the staff, minus Sheridan leaving and Derrick Nix coming here.

It will be hard to be excited for the new season if DeBoer doesn't make needed changes to the staff.
Then again, all the assistant's contracts will be up at the end of 3 thus no buyouts to be paid with the exception of Nix, Grubb, and the new addition at OLB.

It's all Kalen's now. Hope for the best and prepare for the worse.

I get it all, trust me. Terry, my problem is the amount of money these guys command and are paid to do their job. These are grown men taking roles making millions, not children.

In current society large numbers are thrown around every day and shock value is no longer and people are numb to things "just being expensive". Ohtani signing for $700M to play baseball, Stephen Curry making $60M a year, Taylor Swift earning $400M, Kirby making $13M a year, Jimbo being bought out for $80M to not coach anymore. My point is that $1M is a TON of money, but not when you see it compared to those. It's life altering money, but people these days people will roll their eyes and scoff at it because it's not $2M and that won't sniff a hippie smoke shack on Folley Beach. All that while a majority of society struggles. So when I look at Morgan, DeBoer and a staff that clear millions, I have no sympathy about a roll in its infancy because the money you are being paid is one that came with a plan. Byrne has always been discussed like Moore and Battle where they are ahead of the game and make very strategic decisions, not off the cuff ones. The GM role was not hatched overnight, nor was the scope of the role. Sure, it takes time to get the ball rolling, evolve, but an employee's role after a year and you usually know what you've got. Morgan hasn't been mentioned since last Spring when we had that little run of commitments. Not being in the news should be his goal, but when his name is mentioned and the price tag he has, I have questions because $1M-2M is still a lot of cash to me and I don't take throwing all the money around, in college football, in general lightly.

I just want value. Beating Georgia was value, and a lot of value. Getting smoked by Florida State, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Indiana is not value to me. If I keep contributing, I have a voice and want value. Tens of thousands donated and all I have wanted was autographs for my kids and a program to be proud of. Proud of my program has been given, insanely difficult to get autographs anymore, but losing the fear we put into teams has faded incredibly fast and hard to be ok with. We've talked about football being cyclical and now the Big Ten is back and over the SEC. Cyclical was before money ruined football and became legal, now it's a mess and all over the place and you can literally buy yourself a winner every year. So, are we going to lead from the front of this change or from the back?
I’m going to chime in and simply say this. Spend that money on your kids and their activities and just take in the occasional game. It makes it so less stressful and more enjoyable to be quite honest.
I had ā€œskin in the gameā€ at one time. Left a lot of that skin on the practice fields, indoor facility and BDS on a few occasions when we would go to the stadium and practice. I was a season ticket holder on two separate occasions, initially after graduating in ā€˜93 until ā€˜99, had kids and then again from ā€˜07 thru ā€˜19, got out of coaching to spend more time with the family. Every home weekend, we would make the trip over for football, couple times for basketball and a couple of trips for baseball as well. We would go to the bowl game as well. When Covid hit, I didn’t share the athletic departments view on dispersing season tickets so I said to Hell with it all. Now, my kids are grown, so it’s just the wife and I, so we try and take 1 home game a year and maybe 1 basketball and a baseball game.
Now, I still follow and occasionally get upset, but nowhere near how bad I used to get. The portal and NIL have made it like the pros and I simply haven’t given a shit about the pro game in years, because of the money paid for them to play a game.
Again, if I were you, I’d spend my money on the kids and enjoy that time with them, cause it will be gone in the blink of an eye.

I 100% agree with you. The initial investment was to have opportunities to take each kid individually and spend time with them, and it has been serving it's purpose and they absolutely love going to Tuscaloosa. The time investment is incredible and literally takes you away from everything else. Sometimes a good thing and sometimes a bad thing. Putting all of that money investing into my family definitely sounds like the less stressful avenue. Gah, Dr. Phil, way to make it seem like such a simple and obvious decision.

If you had a poem to go with that thread, It would preach! :)

Living 1,300 miles away isn't an excuse considering that was your choice. That hasn't deterred people on this very site from doing exactly that and traveling every Fall. It's called commitment.

Do you feel your investment in Yea Alabama has been worth what you have received? I'm assuming yes since you're over the moon with where we're at. After all, we did win one Playoff game. Mind you Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon, Ole Miss have been better. Just wow. And thank you for your non-disclosed Yea Alabama donation amount. Hopefully you feel value or get it eventually.

And everything you said is exactly what I have said this entire time but your dumbass continues to want to lump everyone into two groups, those pumped about where we are and the "dumbasses" that expect a Natty every year. You're ok with spending all this money, and getting a mediocre product. After all, your political leanings prove you're ok with that exact premise. Easy when it's someone else's. Alabama is not a Top 12 program, it's a Top 5 program, and until we have Top 5 results I am not happy.

You love saying due to Saban's departure we lost a lot of players. With over 6,000 players in the Portal without landing spots, you're telling me others haven't felt that same pain? Every single other team has dealt with the same issues. Most of these programs have "newer coaches". Cignette has been at Indiana, what, two years? He turned his James Madison guys into National Champions. What about DeBoer? You're gonna tell me Cignetti came into a better program and situation than DeBoer? You're gonna tell me Cristobal hasn't lost guys at Miami? Texas Tech is spending money and became a Playoff team overnight basically. Ole Miss dealt with the same and was highly competitive this year. You telling me losing to Indiana 38-3 and watching the Ole Miss-Miami game that you felt better about where we are as a program???

I'll say this again, I think DeBoer can do well and still has a chance, but what I have seen and currently seeing doesn't add up to Championship caliber football. Did we complain every year when Saban didn't win, no, and why was that? Because we knew we had a shot. I don't feel that way right now and neither do thousands of others. DeBoer along with every other coach in the country is put under this pressure, so this isn't an isolated environment just here in Tuscaloosa.
Can you not read? I said we travel there once a year for a game of some sort. Not sure if you know this or not, but I don’t have to disclose how much money I spend on something. You really don’t read do you, you just shoot off with your fingers or is it you don’t grasp reading comprehension? Did I say I was over the moon? No, I specifically said I’m not happy, but you ignored that and said ā€œover the moonā€. Again, would I like to win the NC every year? Yes, am I happy losing the games the way we have? No. But, we’re better than I thought we’d would be. Do I think my investment has been worth it? Yes or I would’ve stopped it.

Political leanings have nothing to do with this, but I should’ve expected it, that’s my fault. If you thought when Saban went 7-6 we had a chance you’re a fucking idiot or full of shit or both.

Anyway, you keep bitching and moaning about where the football team isn’t where you expect or want it and I’ll continue to not.

You have specifically said you were happy with the season we had and where we are at. You have posted that on here multiple times.

I can read and always careful about what I say based on everything people post on here. Apparently your memory isn't as good as your quick mouth, but it's all out there to assist you. I have always admitted when I was wrong or off base and have no ego that accept being proven incorrect or wrong.

Saban was 7-6 in his first year and had nothing when he came to Tuscaloosa. Immediately jumped to 12-2 (SEC loss in a close game to Florida) and then 14-0 (Natty). You willing to put your name on the fact that DeBoer will accomplish this or is in line to perform at this level? DeBoer came in with a full cupboard and has every advantage that 99% of other coaches don't/didn't have. There are others out there with less that are providing more, it's all right there in front of us all to see.

You don't owe me shit for answers, but be prepared to get called out for not backing it up with action. I'm not a dumbass for caring and wanting a return on my money. Yes, I get tickets, but is the product worth what I pay? Off topic, but I am happy with the new home and home offerings. Major upgrade, so that helps. Alabama has increased the costs to go to a game and get tickets, so is it worth it. Alabama begs for NIL money and promises things in return for Yea Alabama. What are we getting for that? Crimson Tide Foundation, Culverhouse, Alumni Foundation etc. all wanting our money and we oblige. What am I getting out of it? So no, I'm not a dumbass for wanting something for all of that.

A loaded paragraph.

You're asking if we're going to see Bama lead and we don't know the answer. It's a loaded question because some answers are self-evident. Other schools have more money. That doesn't mean other teams can't spend enough to field competitive teams; teams that can win titles.

I suggested what I'm reading here several weeks ago. The season won't be taken in its entirety; people will focus on a game here or there.

I'm not sure if unrealistic or impatient is the right word. A little of both, perhaps. We're not one calendar year into rev share and they've already changed it for next year. We're seeing schools take different approaches; players biting on different approaches. Utah is off doing her thing and it's quite different from BYU (who shouldn't lack for money.) No one in the Big 12 has gone Utah's route and I don't believe anyone has taken the same route as TTU; maybe SMU is a close one.

I'm coming of the opinion we haven't seen the last of the restructuring in the Athletic Deptartment. A lot of roles being redefined.

After last night's game can we say that our OC, OL, ST, and SandC coaches are nowhere near what Indiana has? What a well-coached team. Their offensive scheme actually made sense. Defense was sound fundamentally. No triple reverse, toss to the left tackle, triple passes the entire game.

I'm still not convinced that the Oline problems and running game problems were on the coaching staff. I still think the personnel was the biggest problem.

I am all in on Kalen regardless to any changes he makes in current staff. He and the staff have to do a much better job than years one and two but he knows that as well. The players have to do a better job as well. Cleaning the roster just might be the right move. JMO but there is not one player on that roster that moves the needle to think we will miss them.

Watching IU you see a staff of young coaches and Curt is running it all. Their scheme looks simple, and they execute it very well.

Then again

Reporter to John McKay "Coach, what do you think about your team's execution?"
Coach McKay "I'm for it"

Although I agree, IU is an extremely well coached team…….there’s something you are missing.

Buy In. Those IU players were/are bought in.

To me, I don’t think it matters who is coaching, if the players aren’t buying it, it ain’t working.

I never felt that this bama team was completely bought in this season. That’s on coaching, but equally the players.

I guess time will tell.
