It has to do with trying to get them on campus ... I don't think they're late with their targets. Every school does things differently.

If they aren't getting them on campus before they sign, they're late.

Every team has their methods, yes, we've heard that time and time again. Still doesn't take away from the fact that mostly everyone, including just about everyone from this very board have said our offseason has not been great and we've missed multiple targets because they went elsewhere first. Our Portal presence has been subpar.

How do you compete with LSU, Ole Miss, and other schools with big roster? How do you compete with Agents, that's setting up the visits for the players?

There are two types of fans: high unrealistic expectations and realistic expectations.

Most fans for the most part are upset Alabama whiffed on some players. but how can they when they didn't get a chance.

Alabama has been steady and while they were not perfect in the portal... Alabama isn't alone in this. All the players Alabama got, other school whiffed on them. The issue is Agents.

You buy into all that bullcrap? You think Saban was successful because he sat back and waited on others to make their move? Bear handled it the same way and led the charge.

You sit back this day and age you will get left behind. I have never said we should get everyone, that is impossible. I'll tell you again like I've told others, you get paid $10M a year to make a statement. It is your job to be ahead of the others. I have absolutely zero doubt DeBoer is smarter than Kiffin and Sarkesian. What edges has he built into his recruitment of players and building a team. Call anything unreal expectations, but when those people are paying your salary your ass better find a way to make it happen. You build waaaaaaay too many excuses for people making a shit ton of money to dominate their profession. You either have $0 invested or don't care as much as you should if you're a fan. After tasting what we've tasted, how could you ever go back in the opposite direction?

I don't know what to tell you then.

There’s a HUGE difference between realistic expectations and unrealistic expectations, a lot fans fall on the latter. After Saban retired 40 players, a bunch good players may I add quit and went elsewhere, you don’t just snap your fingers and have that talent magically back or replenished.

It's not realistic to easily make a 12 team Playoff. Missed it one year and barely made it in the second year. Pre-season way too early has us at #17. That's pathetic. It's unrealistic to be 1 or 2 every year and to live up to that.

No one is apparently snapping any fingers, that's the problem. We know you're elated with where the program is. I am not. I think DeBoer has opportunities, but after this season, several misses now with the Portal after visually seeing and knowing of it's importance, I'm upset.

Your hyperbole is funny. Some of y’all think shit just happens easily and at the snap of your fingers. A lot of dudes quit after Saban did and you expect in two damn years for him to be able to have the team winning the NC is absolutely unrealistic plain and simple.

I'll ask you this considering it's so funny. How much do you donate to the program? Season tickets? Yeah Alabama? Camps? Any sporting events? How much are you throwing at small businesses in Tuscaloosa and helping the city when you frequent our athletic programs?

If you can say yes to a majority of those questions I would be astonished that you're happy. It's extremely easy to take your approach when you're on the outside looking in and have zero skin in the game. Travel and spend thousands only to have your ass handed to you and not being competitive and then think it's so great.

A lot of dudes quit? Alabama has had one of the most stacked locker rooms in the country the last two years. What the fuck are you even talking about? The fact we get obliterated in our losses is concerning. Losing does not bother me as much, but how we lose does. You can't win them all, it's impossible. But to get it through your thick skull, barely being a Top 12 program is not good enough for me, many others, and the University of Alabama. Why do you think they cycle through coaches between Bear and Stallings and then through Stallings to Saban? Because it's not the standard. The Capstone. Built By Bama. All center around success, top tier, not second rung. The fact we have not hosted a Playoff game the last two years in an expanded Playoff is disappointing. But sure, keep throwing out what left when Saban left considering you had your core. You make zero sense.

Not that it’s any of anybody’s business, but sure I’ll play your game. I’m not giving you an exact number that I give to the program, but I do indeed donate to Yea Alabama, every month. I live 1,300 miles away from Tuscaloosa, so excuse me if I don’t have fucking season tickets nor visit Tuscaloosa every day to appease you, but my kids and I go there every year for at least one game whether it’s football, softball, or basketball.

Let me get this through your thick ass skull nowhere did I say I was ā€œhappyā€, not one fucking time. But, I’m not so ignorant as to think any coach is going to match the previous guy nor am I so ignorant enough to think when 40 players (some starters mind you) leave things will be the same and Bama will truck along like usual. To think that many players leaving doesn’t hurt a program is absolutely absurd and on the verge of idiotic.

Am I happy to get blown out in the playoff? No, but I am happy to make the playoff because that’s better than where I thought we’d be by year two. I want us to win every game, but that’s not feasible nor is winning the NC every year, not sure if you know this or not, but other teams are pretty good too.

You can have your expectations, but if they’re to win the NC every year you’re going to be one unhappy dude for a lot of years, so get your heart meds or take up yoga or therapy

What Saban did and what Coach Bryant did aren't applicable to what DeBoer and staff are doing in this context. There wasn't a GM role like the one we're seeing develop. Develop, in this situation, is watching the amount of influence / power the GM will have within a sports program.

Remember, when Morgan was brought in the GM role for college football was in its infancy. He didn't have that title at UW or UM though that's where we were seeing the Director of Player Personnel position began to develop into. Bob Welton has had the DPP role for seven or eight years at Bama. His focus isn't the same as Morgan's. Just as one example, we're not going to be seeing portal kids at summer camps and clinics and those continue.

Now, back to something here ...

Take the RB that went to TX (reported as his agent's alma mater.) His agent says "don't sign," go to Texas. They both got more money.
I don't see that as something you can lay at anothers feet. I understand a lot of these kids get the agents signature when they return home. A new ball joining "get the parents on campus" though agents haven't been visiting like parents will/do.

The most important question for college football fans in ten years is going to be something along lines of "who is our Howie Roseman?" A combination staff like Shanahan and Lynch is something people will long to see happen.

Now that the game is over, Alabama needs to be contacting wide receivers on both Indiana and Miami to see if anyone wants a new deal. Let the tampering begin. The last WR transfer from Miami worked out pretty well for Bama. See if there is another one who wants a new address.

Living 1,300 miles away isn't an excuse considering that was your choice. That hasn't deterred people on this very site from doing exactly that and traveling every Fall. It's called commitment.

Do you feel your investment in Yea Alabama has been worth what you have received? I'm assuming yes since you're over the moon with where we're at. After all, we did win one Playoff game. Mind you Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon, Ole Miss have been better. Just wow. And thank you for your non-disclosed Yea Alabama donation amount. Hopefully you feel value or get it eventually.

And everything you said is exactly what I have said this entire time but your dumbass continues to want to lump everyone into two groups, those pumped about where we are and the "dumbasses" that expect a Natty every year. You're ok with spending all this money, and getting a mediocre product. After all, your political leanings prove you're ok with that exact premise. Easy when it's someone else's. Alabama is not a Top 12 program, it's a Top 5 program, and until we have Top 5 results I am not happy.

You love saying due to Saban's departure we lost a lot of players. With over 6,000 players in the Portal without landing spots, you're telling me others haven't felt that same pain? Every single other team has dealt with the same issues. Most of these programs have "newer coaches". Cignette has been at Indiana, what, two years? He turned his James Madison guys into National Champions. What about DeBoer? You're gonna tell me Cignetti came into a better program and situation than DeBoer? You're gonna tell me Cristobal hasn't lost guys at Miami? Texas Tech is spending money and became a Playoff team overnight basically. Ole Miss dealt with the same and was highly competitive this year. You telling me losing to Indiana 38-3 and watching the Ole Miss-Miami game that you felt better about where we are as a program???

I'll say this again, I think DeBoer can do well and still has a chance, but what I have seen and currently seeing doesn't add up to Championship caliber football. Did we complain every year when Saban didn't win, no, and why was that? Because we knew we had a shot. I don't feel that way right now and neither do thousands of others. DeBoer along with every other coach in the country is put under this pressure, so this isn't an isolated environment just here in Tuscaloosa.

I get it all, trust me. Terry, my problem is the amount of money these guys command and are paid to do their job. These are grown men taking roles making millions, not children.

In current society large numbers are thrown around every day and shock value is no longer and people are numb to things "just being expensive". Ohtani signing for $700M to play baseball, Stephen Curry making $60M a year, Taylor Swift earning $400M, Kirby making $13M a year, Jimbo being bought out for $80M to not coach anymore. My point is that $1M is a TON of money, but not when you see it compared to those. It's life altering money, but people these days people will roll their eyes and scoff at it because it's not $2M and that won't sniff a hippie smoke shack on Folley Beach. All that while a majority of society struggles. So when I look at Morgan, DeBoer and a staff that clear millions, I have no sympathy about a roll in its infancy because the money you are being paid is one that came with a plan. Byrne has always been discussed like Moore and Battle where they are ahead of the game and make very strategic decisions, not off the cuff ones. The GM role was not hatched overnight, nor was the scope of the role. Sure, it takes time to get the ball rolling, evolve, but an employee's role after a year and you usually know what you've got. Morgan hasn't been mentioned since last Spring when we had that little run of commitments. Not being in the news should be his goal, but when his name is mentioned and the price tag he has, I have questions because $1M-2M is still a lot of cash to me and I don't take throwing all the money around, in college football, in general lightly.

I just want value. Beating Georgia was value, and a lot of value. Getting smoked by Florida State, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Indiana is not value to me. If I keep contributing, I have a voice and want value. Tens of thousands donated and all I have wanted was autographs for my kids and a program to be proud of. Proud of my program has been given, insanely difficult to get autographs anymore, but losing the fear we put into teams has faded incredibly fast and hard to be ok with. We've talked about football being cyclical and now the Big Ten is back and over the SEC. Cyclical was before money ruined football and became legal, now it's a mess and all over the place and you can literally buy yourself a winner every year. So, are we going to lead from the front of this change or from the back?

Honestly. I would try and get OL, RB in that roser from both of team.

Khobie Martin, gotta see if he's hitting portal or not .
