The Big Dogs are just sitting on the porch watching. I expect several to hit the portal

Bama needs a proven RB as bad as anything right now. These two freshmen might be great, but we need one that has speed, power, and can make the defense miss. We don't have that RB on our roster right now. #4 #28 are ordinary at best. You would need the 68 Green Bay Packer OL to have a ground attack with those two carrying the load.
You could bring in Derrick Henry or Mark Ingram and it won’t matter without OL help! Shit! Any back is going to struggle when you are consistently hit a yard BEHIND the LOS on every snap!! You don’t have a play without an OL. Give me 3-4 good OL and any combination of Hill, Riley, Dear, or the 2 incoming freshmen automatically get better. Hill is a downhill runner, much like Henry. He needs to be moving when he gets the ball, not standing still.

Hill has to lose 15-20 lbs. and really build some quickness, and neither is going to happen. I can't believe you're still trying to sell 28 as a starting RB for Alabama. He should be at Troy or Jax State.
Will you do me a favor and point me to where I've "tried to sell" what you're proporting here. I'll save you some time. You won't find it. Go look of you would like; .your Metamucil can wait a few hours.

Then you would end up having Kevin Riley 2.0.....
KR doesn't run through guys like Hill.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like people have forgotten how Saban recruiting RB's. The RB room has been by committee for years. We really didn't see many all-purpose running backs. They weren't sending Ingram outside the tackles on a play a guy like Riley could make. But, even Saban wouldn't send Riley between the tackles like they would Mark.

We've known this. But, I don't think I've ever written or said it out loud until today. I can't say I've even considered the question.

Have we seen a true All-Purpose back at UA this century? Think about it for a second, Kevin. If we go back 20 years we'd be looking at all-purpose yards on a Sunday morning. When is the last time we've discussed a back, post game, and were looking at his rushing yards, receiving yards (or return yards) when we were critiquing his performance? I'm thinking the player would be Freddie: and Bama certainly didn't send him between the tackles. Or was it Prothro with APY?

That's why I personally don't understand "the right fit" type of player, because in the end you're looking at one year and nothing else, so why wouldn't you just want the best athlete to go out and win a Natty?
I've been trying to process this since you posted. I still don't quite understand the notion.

Why are these kids hitting the portal? There are a number of reasons but there are two we can point to with no doubt.

One, they feel they are better than their current coaching staff feels they are and these players believe they deserve more snaps. Or two, they believe they deserve more money than they are about to receive.

In either case, take a second and try to empathize with these players. At the risk of sounding "woke" and getting someone up in arms, "what are these players feeling?"

They are upset. No doubt. It today's society with these kids ... being upset leads to anger, resentment, and bitterness.

Now, with this in mind...that signing the best athlete thing. Do you want what's been mentioned here in your locker room if you are the head coach?

It's still a bit upsetting people don't see the humor. For the better part of a decade we saw so many people screaming about the players not getting what they deserve in choices and compensation. Now, the players are making decisions based on their beliefs; beliefs based on what they heard for those 10 years. Most of the time it's about what they want and how much they'll get.

(Considering it's now a profession, how much room do we really have to complain they are treating it as a profession?)

People screamed about "bowl games being worthless" when the kids were enjoying and appreciating the opportunity to play in those games. Lo and behold, the kids today look at the games as being a waste of time.

I feel little sympathy for complaints about the game today when those complaining created the environment.

Bowl games are the same as they’ve always been, but since a bunch of ā€œsomebodiesā€ (fans for lack of a better term) say they’re not. it trickles down

I'll just be blunt and honest about all of this. This is a small study that proves most people have zero control on how to run their lives. Guard rails in life are necessary, because there are a lot of people that don't think for themselves, have no drive or direction, and simply built to do what others tell them to do. Without rules/laws it gets extremely messy, because so many people are simply idiots.

As you stated, thousands of portal entrants with zero clue where they will be playing ball in their coming season. Think about that. Had a scholarship to play sports and get a free education and other perks to losing that and not having a clue what is next. Tell me how dumb that is and how they have sabotaged their future.

I never wanted them to be paid. I valued the scholarship and benefits from that. It created value, built a future, and make athletes hungry for the real pay day. Story hasn't been written yet, but the immediate gratification generation hasn't shown if the get rich quick model has helped them or cursed them. We've all seen "Broke" and heard the stories. Most of these even younger athletes have an even larger chance of going broke because their families are idiots and their agents only care about themselves as usual. Momma's and uncles, cousins and dad's all getting in the ear of their athletes has always been there, but now it's legal and a whole new variety of failures have come from it. Atleast before there were rules and it made it hard to fuck up. Now you can legally fuck up and prevent yourself from having a future before it ever got started.
