Asking the question, at the time they are asking it, is putting the players in a bad spot. They are still playing. A few of the players know they are headed elsewhere (and the staff knows too), but they are still with the team. Having them tell the truth, "yeah, I'm going into the portal..." would only be a distraction as you know how many of our fans would take it. Others, likely assume they are staying for next season, but find out in the post season meetings that it isn't a viable option... so if they answer honestly, "yes, I'm coming back!" then it looks like they were being deceitful. "He lied to us!"
For going on two months there have been conversations, here, about Ryan leaving. The transfer portal and rosters are discussed weekly, daily in some places. But, "we do not want to know?" .
How many on here think a kid will break that news to a reporter asking a question before the final game is played? People want to know, but people also realize asking before the kid has announced anything on their own is worthless. In this environment, with all the social media options, when a Bama player of any notoriety responds to a reporter on this question in the affirmative, and they’ve yet to tell anyone before being asked by said reporter, then I’ll change my stance.
How many would lamblast the reporter for not asking the question? 100's, if not 1000's depending on the person. The average consumer of today's media has an appetite that is insatiable in spite of its aftertaste. "Ya gotta feed the beast."
(We're entering a really good season as an example: March Madness and Joe Lundardi. No matter how bad he is at his forecasts—at least he wasn't as bad as Jerry Palm—people will still rush and cling to his reporting.)
I’m disappointed to be honest. I had hoped he had found a home at RG. In his mind though, he may see himself as a tackle though or maybe the constant rotating got on his nerves. I wish him well.
CKD kept folks on board in spring and that was a talking point for how good of a job he was doing. So what is the difference now? BTW not surprised with this and NIL just asking what was successful after spring game versus now? More players with reality of where they fall in the NIL money and depth chart? Maybe some being ask to leave?
