Well, how many 19 year olds are making $1M a year? Mandel is such a tool sometimes. He's just like Mike Greenberg with that Northwestern arrogance that people just want to right hook. Mandel's mailbag used to be fun to read, but then it became a nerd with a platform that he used to troll rather than embrace for good.

What does what Saban made as a GA, in 1973, have to do with what's going on with Bryce in 2021?
It's quite ironic seeing conversations about what money might do with these kids and their careers and here we are talking about Stew who clearly has had his opinion and character changed by that very thing: money.
As The Athletic is crumbling beneath his feet he's resorted to trolling. This is one of the same guys whose "content" a year ago was all about canceling the 2020 season.
You see how duplicitous Mandel is being here, right? He's been screaming "pay the players" for years and now that it's happening, "oh wait, that's too much money!"

It's more of why Saban would say "ungodly amount of money", because to a lot of us at 19, or any age, it is an ungodly amount of money as Saban wasn't making it at that age no matter what Mandel is spewing about him making in his 60's.

Considering the hours both put in, you may not consider it that much/worth it. People whine and complain about the money these guys make, but those are the same people that are in the parking lot as soon as 5PM hits and don't want to put in the work. Doubt coach is looking at his social media accounts during the day like we do. We thinking coach puts in 100 hours a week or more? Wall Streeters do the same and are making that kind of money as well. It's lucrative, of course, but a handful of people make that kind of money, not everyone.

My point was that he was comparing Saban's money after a 40+ year career to a 19 year old kid who has never started. It was a silly comparison. Apples and apples would be to compare him to a person just starting out in their field so I used Saban as a GA as a more realistic comparison. Whatever $1M would have been in 1973 is what Saban would need to have started out at. He likely did not start out as a GA making that.
