🏈 2017 NFL Draft Thread

Guess I see this and the way Foster handled his prep as the difference in the slide. I'm highly doubting injuries were a much of a factor with Foster as many are trying to make it.Foster is still one of my favorites to watch, especially seeing his transformation after slimming down, but I see Howard as a guy that used his time in Tuscaloosa to learn from his head coach and finding ways to apply it.

O.J. Howard talks about how Nick Saban prepared him for life in the NFL

So a 2-down pass rusher is more important than an every-down defensive signal caller that can stuff the run, drop into pass coverage, and play 53 yards wide every play?

I saw the Solomon kid in a few workouts and he's a specimen. As Reuben eloquently pointed out in their interview together, he was only a junior. I agree that setting the edge and defending the run will be what he will have to work at going against NFL OL, but he is more than a pass rush specialist.

As far as I know none these have singed a FA contract and Cole Mazza has been invited for a try out at the Jets rookie mini camp.

I've seen nothing to give me reason to believe Shank is playing anymore football. As of the playoff games he still wasn't passing concussion protocol tests.

Not all concussions are created equal and Shank has the classic symptoms of someone who needs to say goodbye to the sport. That concussion job that Dale Earnhardt Jr. went through last season may be the underlying reason he's calling it a career. You got to be smart and know when something you love doesn't love you back and just get out while you have your marbles. One of the scariest things I saw in football last year was when Luke Kuechly got concussed again and he was just emotional and literally crying because he could quickly sense the severity of it. I don't think all skulls are the same. Some guys can take the physical contact better than others. As sad as it is when you're the one who keeps getting dinged, it's really better to walk away while you can.

Sources: Foster's shoulder led to drop in draft

A major reason former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster slipped to No. 31 in the first round of last week's draft is a shoulder condition that worried teams and could jeopardize his rookie season, per league sources.

Despite surgery on his right rotator cuff, Foster's right shoulder was worrisome enough that some teams did not consider drafting him.

"The surgery didn't take," said one well-placed source with knowledge of the injury.

Yet, other teams' doctors thought it was okay? Another case of one medical opinion versus another?

In the same article Stalker quoted about the surgery "not taking."

Foster was sent home early from the combine in February after he had an altercation with a hospital worker. Because Foster left the combine early, the NFL did not have its own medical report on him until just days before the draft. By the time teams received it, there were enough concerns with multiple teams that, at the very least, it contributed to Foster sliding down the board, according to league sources.
That strikes me as a little odd. Teams avoiding him due to his shoulder were the reports we read before the NFL had its own medical report? I read this and wonder if these concerned teams had their team doctor look at Reuben. I suspect a lot didn't if for any other reason than the needs they were trying to fill.

Such a weird story.
