🏈 2010 Recruiting Spin Prediction

Just one of those 'putting it out there' posts so later I can go back and say 'I told you so' if it happens (and just let lie buried and forgotten if it does not  ).

In looking around at some of the general vibes about the 2010 football recruiting, it appears UA will not really be targeting more than a double handful (meaning around ten-or-so) in-state prospects for that class. Due apparently to a very shallow pool of championship level options this year compared to the last two years. And I could really see us only getting six-seven-eight of that list (no names, just playing general numbers and odds that two-or-three might be Barner Lifers).

So, I can see where the vast majority of our class will be from out-of-state.

Now, I can see where the Cheeze-whiz and his staff might follow their public pronouncements of targeting the state and filling up their class with guys from all across the state. And THEN claiming that 1) this means they are 'retaking' the state and 2) they forced UA to look elsewhere for talent. Regardless of the very real possibility our class will have a higher value from the national recruiting sites.

Again, just going on the record here.

Of course, if this posts finds its way to any Barner board, they will spin it that I am 'already making excuses' out of the fear I have for their new coach and his staff.

That claim will not be supportable when one looks at the recruiting class rankings, star ratings and who claimed the most of the in-state Top Ten.

Saban Cherry-picking will be an easily be seen as the story.

I personally feel, just going on a gut feeling, that this year's class will be the best class Alabama has ever signed, as well as Saban's best ever. After we beat undefeated Tebow and the Gators in Atlanta this December, the recruits will file in by the dozens. Only the elite will be taken, of course cool8) .

I'm convinced that the best free entertainment on the internet is the endless spin-cycle from Opelika.

When Tubby was landing decent classes, it was that 'stars matter'. I remember when Bama stole Marcus Carter and Ali Sharrief from aubarn, they said it was cause they 'didn't have enough stars' for aubarn.

Then when Saban dominated in 2008, Tubby didn't recruit stars, he recruited 'character'.

When Tubby got canned, the barners praised Willis. I remember reading them proclaim 'Thank God for Coach Willis!' on another board, and that he was the 'best recruiter aubarn has'.

Then as soon as Saban stole him, he was a worthless loser. Or the BEST spin ever...he was actually sent to Tuscaloosa by aubarn to spy on how Saban is cheating, and report back to Dye/Lowder. Yes, I've actually seen some of them claim that.

In 2009, Chizik 'finished strong' by landing a 4-star QB that will never play a down of football in the SEC. And Chizik has assembled an all-star staff of recruiters. Even though the best recruiter on their staff was Fulmer's bagman.

No matter what aubarn does in recruiting, the barners will have a spin to explain why it was the perfect class. I mean their last two classes have been absolute disasters, yet to hear them tell it, Bama is in trouble.

Just sit back and enjoy the show!

When has that mattered in the past?

I've already heard statements reflecting what alagator put out...seriously, the spin is already in place.

Almost, to a word, it read, "The Alabama fans are claiming it's a down year in Alabama so they'll have their story in place when..."

The answer to the question, at least in the way I look at it, is going to be based on the top 10 in state. Where the top players go tends to say who ruled that state for that particular class.

(We've got our preliminary list of the top 15-20 prospects in state right now. We'll whittle it down over the summer and come out with a list reflecting our thoughts here at RTB.com. I'm sure that'll be labeled as a spin on some manner as well.)

One thing I haven't heard mentioned is just exactly how many scholarships we will offer? We signed approximately 50 in the last 2 years. I'm unsure as to how many seniors we will lose next year. (along with a few jr's that might come out early).....I could be wrong, but I would be surprised if we signed 20 this up coming season.

I think we have about 22 seniors. If one or two juniors leave early (e.g. McClain) and a few recruits don't make it or take grey shirts, also sprinkle in some attrition, I see us signing an over full class again...25 to 30.

25-28 is the number I'm hearing...

Another note on the recruiting front. We'll be taking more athletic type players in this class which normally equals higher ratings. If we are in as good of shape as I'm hearing, we'll easily have a top 3 class, if not the #1 again.

Looking at the majority of guys who have us high on their list I would say this class (2010) will be loaded athleticism and speed.
