He was a great guy. Met him several years ago at an old job. He came in to have a procedure done. Very humble and super gracious. Loved talking football with him. He was impressed that I knew a lot of his history from Jax St. and Jack Crowe to taking over for Crowe at Arkansas and working with Bobby Bowden and Mickey Andrews near the end of their run at FSU.

That's cool, Doug. I've had several experiences with coaches and players from the past like this one: people a little shocked at how much I knew about their time at UA and what's happened after those days.

You know what dawned on me several years ago? How do we know these things? While it's not all...a lot of it comes from discussions we've had here that went sideways for a few minutes.

My favorite was meeting Bockrath: I'm betting it wasn't a highlight of his career in Tuscaloosa.

What exactly do you do? I'm aware of the general field. It seems to reflect hospital, tech side of things like imaging or diagnostic work.
I've seen FAR TOO many of you guys the last few weeks!

The last 3 years I have been a medical device rep in cardiac stuff. Currently working for a company that does cardiac ablation during open heart surgery.
Prior to that was a Nurse Practitioner for 12 years. Prior to that 5 years in a cath lab as a RN. Prior to that I did x-ray repair at Brookwood Hospital in Bham and did a year and a half at DCH in T-town. Prior to that.....I worked in testing at a condom factory in Dothan. (no -shit). I built machines that wrapped and tested condoms, and maintained all the equipment. Had 43 women working under me. Also had a viagra addiction, it was the hardest time of my life!!

His son worked at DCH as an orderly/PCT. Odd was an absolute understatement. Weird as a 3 dollar bill and crazy as a run over dog.

Interesting current gig. My wife is having a sub ICD implanted in about 10 days at Vandy. Didn’t expect to need that at her age, low 40’s. She’s nervous as a cat about it.

@Rolltide24 low 40's is a bit young for an ICD, but certainly beats the alternative. Best to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Has she experienced a fatal arrythmia recently or a close call? I would assume something happened to bring her to the point of needing one this soon.

Bockrath didn’t have to many fans in Tuscaloosa! I know Coach Stallings doesn’t send him a Christmas card!!

She had heart failure during delivery of our daughter 19 years ago then again during the c-section when my son was born 11 years ago. She has non-obstructive hypertrophic cardio myopathy. Or something like that. They see her twice a year and make her wear monitors for a spell each year. She works out 4-5 times a week and is in excellent condition, except for the heart. They’ve been telling her for 11 years that she was going to need one of these things and this year they all agreed it was time. I believe her numbers have been not as good during the monitoring the last few years. She had a procedure lined up for fall break in October and this news came a couple weeks earlier and derailed it. Let’s just say, this was not the implant she had planned on… But she wants to be safe and not sorry! They tried to line up the procedure the week after they told her she needed it, she was pretty distraught. But I did some reading and research and asked some friends and learned it was not THAT urgent, January 10th would be acceptable.

The lead, and their NP's, are the best people in the hospital. I've had a few issues over the last decade, moreso these past two months. The hospital I use (and yes, there is one I will NOT use no matter the location) has two towers. When I was in for a day just before Christmas I asked for a specific tower, and specific floor, and a specific wing. Why? They all know me. Yes, from a medical standpoint...but moreso in conversations we've had.

Y'all medical people ... for some reason, truly fascinate me.

I've told this story before.

Me, and a friend of mine named Mike, used to keep beer in the cooler parked at the curb ... 20-30 yards from those picnic tables just outside the R field fence. I'm sure you remember them. Concrete...hot as hell, cold has hell...hard as hell...but, it was baseball and beer.

That joker came out on a Saturday afternoon...we're in the shorts and t-shirt weather and he's wearing an 'effin bow tie to a baseball game.

I don't believe I've ever seen, much less heard of, an athletic director that was so out of touch with athletics.
