So with the turn of the new year we are sitting at, what, 24 commits in this world were people will say mean things about you if you welcome over 25 commitments. That said, I have no idea how to figure out what the eventual signing number (Grey Shirts, Early Enrollees, Tradition Signees, Bryant Scholarship, Walk-On, Conscripts, Groupees, Baseball Players who spend their falls helping other Alabama teams in their down time,...) will be on Signing Day a little over a month from now.

What I did notice was the number of players that we are still after, and the caliber of those players. Eddie Golden, Dorian Green-Beckhem, Landon Collins, Jameis Winston, Kwon Alexander, Cyrus Jones, Barry Sanders Jr. That's seven names, and all seven are ESPN Top 150 National Prospects. In fact, all are top 33 but for Sanders who ESPN ranks as #78. Regardless, this is some serious talent.

QUESTION: Numberically speaking, is there any way that we could sign this many?

QUESTION: How many more will we add?

QUESTION: Who among these are do we sign?

QUESTION: Can we assume that there are no others outside this group that are still in the running for spots?

I know that Landon Collins and Cyrus Jones are projected to announce their commitments this Thursday (05Jan) at the UnderArmour Game on ESPN. With the nation viewing, this would be a great PR opportunity for Jaboo Winston to announce that he is flipping to Bama.

What do you know? What do you not know? What do you think?

Thanks.

Question #1: Numerically it is possible to sign this many. With the way the new settings are in these, we have had to make stipulations with lower level prospects whom have been offered scholarships. With some leaving and grey shirts, we are almost assured that we can recruit at least 3-4 more players. From what I've heard, if we were to recruit a big name star say Eddie, LC, and Jameis Winston wish to come to Alabama, then certain recruits who are verbal commitments lower on the totem pole would probably not be allowed to sign. As much as this seems underhanded and unfair, it is the way things are going to have to work now.

Question #2: See #1. I think 4 players is the maximum for us and that's about all I expect to add. Though I guess it's possible we could add more, especially with early enrolling counting towards other signing classes.

Question #3: I'd like to see Eddie, LC, Jameis Winston, and Peat. I think they'd round out the signing class very well and despite what people think..I just don't see DGB coming here...but if he did I'd be willing to sacrifice someone for him. I think he's worth it.

Question #4: There is always the possibility that we only get 2 of these players to sign and in the end we have to go outside to fill our needs. Unlikely that we drop someone who is already verbally committed for someone outside the top 200 players though. So I don't think it will be an issue after we see what happens.

I think our best shots at players are Landon Collins and Eddie. I don't see Barry Sanders Jr coming, especially since we've got more than enough at RB in this class already. It's really anybodies game at the moment. I think after the 5th we'll know a ton more about where things are headed.

It's just so hard to make solid predictions. These kids can change their mind in an instant. From what I have heard and read, I think as of right now you can probably take Barry Sanders Jr. and Kwon Alexander off that list.

Saban always seems to pull someone out of the hat at the end that nobody is talking about, so that remains an unknown whether he will do that again or not. I think you can add Deon Bush, Jordan Jenkins, and to a lesser extent Channing Ward...although I think Ward ends up at AU.

I know there were/are a lot of people that were very optimistic that J. Winston would flip over to us, and that could very well happen, but it makes me nervous that he's still committed to FSU.

I'd like to hear Terry & Porter's take on how they think it will shake out. Even though a lot could happen between now and Signing Day. Either way, we look good, even if we finished today.

Cyrus Jones and Landrum Collins are supposed to announce after the UnderArmor game tonight. Rodney Orr said on his radio program that he expects both to be Bama.

Assuming this ends up being the case, that would in theory bring us to a virtual close, or at least get us down to "homerun" names. Who would be those truely homerun names that we would "add just one more for"?

Also, with Williams and Collins, that would be the best Safety class in this year to go along with the best LB class.

Actually, Williams has said that he will start at WR once he gets to BAMA. Not sure if it will stick that way or not, but he seems to be able to play at a high level on both Offense and Defense. Heck, I think he plays QB for his high school team.

I'd like to hear other's opinion on the affect (or is it effect?) the departure of Sal Sunseri might have had on Eddie Goldman's recruitment? Sunseri was the lead recruiter for Goldman, and obviously a big part of his recruitment to Alabama.

I have been told that Rumph also has a solid relationship with Goldman stemming back from his days recruiting him while he was at Clemson. And I guarantee Saban is all over this situation, and has been since Sunseri's name started to float around the UT camps.

I see both Winston and Goldman as our 2 big fish left that we have a shot at...would love to land either of them, and landing both would almost make this class unfair. I've kinda written DGB off, but certainly wouldn't mind being wrong about him.

Curious. Is that "none" because you think he's going somewhere else or is it because you think our chances are just as good as they were with Sunseri? I might be a little biased, but if I were a Defensive Blue-Chipper (believe me, I'm not!) and I took notice of the NFL factory that Saban has going on, it'd be hard to turn down. And I'm sure that's quite the selling point with 99% of these guys...

The most first rounder from a single school in one year is 4 -- that being Saban's Alabama. Now we have three underclassmen who are going early and are projected to be first rounders. But for Alabama, the JUNIORS from this class are matching the best that any Senior class in the history of the draft could do...any team, any year. And, how many of them have their degrees?

None, as his departure wouldn't have that big of a bearing on his decision. Sunseri< Smart < Saban, ya know?

Miami has four in 2001 as well.

I think we had 23 graduates on this years team. It's something like that...can't recall the exact number but you could probably google it.

APR was up again, FWIW.

Still, our JUNIORS against all of college football are bested only by that one Miami team?
Didn't we have 21-22 graduates on the 2009 team as well. I do recall hearing that it was a record then.

Thats a heck of a recruiting "oh, and another thing..." to bring out sitting in Mom's living room.
