The former Crimson Tide stars had different experiences selecting agents. Richardson signed with CAA Sports and famed agent Jimmy Sexton. Upshaw signed with Octagon Sports after interviewing several agents.

MOBILE, Alabama -- Almost everywhere Courtney Upshaw steps, there's someone representing him nearby.

Alabama's former star linebacker swiftly picked an agent to represent him as he prepares for the NFL draft. Soon after Alabama won the national championship, Upshaw was in Atlanta interviewing agents. It was a simple process, he said, to pick Octagon Sports.

But it's not always simple, as former Crimson Tide teammate Trent Richardson learned.

"Man, people say recruiting is hard," Richardson said last week. "Choosing a college is hard to go through. But this right here is probably the hardest thing ever because everybody tells you what you want to hear. It ain't nothing but deja vu, for real."

Richardson, who is leaving for the NFL with one year of eligibility left, said Saturday he planned to talk with his family and pray about the decision.

“He said it was up to me whether I wanted to play DB or not, so I told him that’s what I felt comfortable at and that’s where I wanted to play. So I moved over, and that’s where I’m at now.”

A thousand things went through Bradley Sylve’s mind last fall when he was summoned to Nick Saban’s office.

When you’re a freshman football player at the University of Alabama, getting called in for a one-on-one with the head coach can be scary.

“My heart was driving,” Sylve said in New Orleans a few days before the Crimson Tide’s Bowl Championship Series national title victory over LSU. “I hoped I didn’t mess up or something.

“It turned out to be a good thing.”

The 5-foot-11 rookie from Port Sulpher, La., got the call in Week 5 of the regular season, when Alabama was preparing to play at Florida. Saban wanted Sylve, a speedy prospect who had been working at wideout, to consider a move to the defensive backfield.

Alabama coach Nick Saban made appearance Monday at the Senior Bowl practice at W.C. Majors Field in Fairhope, Ala., to visit with some of his former players.

FAIRHOPE, Ala. -- A soggy Senior Bowl South practice inched closer toward its conclusion Monday afternoon with no sign of the state's latest coaching icon.

Then in the final 15 minutes, a black SUV rolled onto the track inside W.C. Majors Field. A door opened and out came Nick Saban, the head coach of the reigning national champion Alabama Crimson Tide.

Saban waved to cheering fans, some gathered along a fence desperately shouting his full name. He never broke stride as he made his way to an NFL Network interview. One kid yelled out, "Nick Saban! Sign my face!"

Two out of three is more than special. Three out of four is more than possible.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Nick Saban let his guard down for just a moment Saturday.

In the middle of his prepared speech, toward the close of the celebration in Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Alabama coach said one thing that sounded like it came straight from the heart he rarely shows to the outside world.

"I think winning two national championships in the last three years is pretty damn special," he said.

    Wow. Did you catch that?

He actually put the process aside for a moment. He did something he asks his players, coaches and fans not to do.
He looked at the results of his work. He looked at the results and saw that they were good, very good, and he didn't mind saying it.

    Good for him.
