His first hire was Danny Pearman, GA in '90 and coached with us for 6-7 years.

Today, he hired Woody McCorvey. McCorvey had committed to coach at South Carolina 24 hrs ago before joining Dabo.

He also hired Charlie Harbinson today.

I'm glad he is going with coaches he knows. I don't think Ronnie Cottrell or Ivie Williams will be onhis list though.

Neely and assistant at Bama...then to Howard a player and graduate...then to Hootie Ingram who played at Bama...then to Charlie Pell who played and was a GA at Alabama...then to Danny Ford who played for Alabama...

Ken Hatfield and Tommy West followed, no connection...

Tommy Bowden who coached at Alabama...then to Dabo Swinney who played and coached at Bama who is joined by Danny, Woody, and Charlie.

Guys, that span covers from 1931 until today...

Charlie is a great recruiter, but I've never been impressed with his on the field coaching abilities.

I'm sure Woody is very respected, but he has never really shown me anything as an OC. I would really like to see Dabo do well.

I've been told it is something in an Administrative role...yet to be determined.

Harbinson is DB's...Pearman, on the offense but not announced yet either.

Wow, Dabo didn't have to go any further than Starkville to assemble this group. I agree with Bo and rammerjammer. I guess this whole Croom departure worked to his advantage though. I just don't think that staff will be feared by anyone.

I can understand hiring ex-Alabama players or assistants, but good grief hire some GOOD ones at least. A staff of Kines, Harbison, and McCorvey would automatically be near the bottom of even the ACC.

Dabo must have a death wish - or be extremely confident in his own abilities to cover up for an incompetent staff. Kind of reminds me of the current make-up of Mark Gottfried's UA basketball staff - don't hire anyone smarter or better than you so you look great in comparison. Sort of the antithesis of the old Coach Bryant principle of always hiring assistants smarter than he.

Hmmm, I thought Joe Kines was a fairly decent DC. Didn't he have the #2 or #3 defense in the nation for a couple of years?

I must not understand as much as you do. For my feeble 36 year old mind, I do seem to remember 'Bama's defense being the only thing that even half-way kept them in many games durng Coach Kines tenure at 'Bama.

I always dreaded it when we played agains Kines defenses when he was at MSU and Arkansas. He was a very credible DC under Perkins and Shula. That 2005 D was probably the nation's best.
