šŸˆ With TX and ND on the future OOC schedule I'd love to see us schedule USC for a home and home

There's a long list of schools that would be a great TV draw in a home-and-home:

Ohio State
Florida State
Oklahoma
Washington
Nebraska

These match ups have occurred in the past but usually in bowl games. Add the rarely played Iowa, UVA, Maryland, Kansas State or Syracuse. That would open up some eyes as to what football is.

I know USC is a private school so they may be able to skirt California law.

If their employees are considered to be people who fall under restrictions of state law Alabama can't have a home and home with USC because the state employees have been banned from working in the state of Alabama.

The state of CA just added the state of Oklahoma to their banned list. I'm not sure how many that is now; eight or nine I'm thinking.

John McKay and John Robinson's Trojans were no joke. They came to B'ham and whipped us pretty good, twice. That second loss was the year we won the title anyway in 1978. I think with Helton's program and getting them again so soon they probably don't measure up for a home and home. I know we played @Washington the same year in 1978, that would be a biggie in the Pac 12. I would enjoy a home and home with Stanford one of these days. Have we ever played those guys?

They still have to follow state laws.

The state law only affects state employees conducting business in banned states. As indicated, USC is unaffected because they are a private institution, which is why they were able to schedule a 2020 season opener against UA in Dallas and play in the Cotton Bowl last season vs tOSU.

I'm wondering if everyone gets tired of seeing Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State in the Playoff discussion every year if we won't start seeing a lot of pressure to play those type games in the regular season to end any debates and to try and allow other programs to experience the playoff.

California has some crazy laws--strange exceptions even having an affect on private business, etc. So, I was hesitant...asked an acquaintance "if there was anything on the books that the state could say anything about" and she just said,

"Private. When they tried to stick their nose in a few years ago Dad ..."

'nuff said for me on that one.

I'm sure they do. I'm sure that any team that is good enough to repeat gets those longing stares and just like that, jealousy abounds. The 4 team playoff is the reason for the season. Jimbo Fisher wasn't hired at Texas A&M to get them to a New Year's Eve bowl. It's driving everything these ambitious schools do economically and contractually with these coaches.

While that really doesn't mean much anymore (Meineke was on NYE a few years ago with A&M invited) they should be happy if he can get them to double digit wins. I want to say they've had three seasons where they've reached that mark over the last quarter of a century.

Bama played Stanford twice in the Rose Bowl. Stanford has never played a current SEC team in the regular season. Played Tulane 3 times in the 60's. In fact, the last home game Tulane played as a member of the SEC was against Stanford.

Alabama versus Stanford would be a great game for simple uniform haters (sarcasm)

They would be happy, for a minute. But it will get old fast if they can't make it to the playoff. The Aggies are recruiting again at an extraordinary rate and that is where a lot of Fisher's future expectation will come from. It's hard for me to believe that past DNA matters much these days. More and more I see it as a Playoff or bust mentality. That's what those 7 million dollars a year contracts are all about.

Stanford does have a couple home and home series with Vandy scheduled over the next 10 years.

That said, I've always hated the lack of PAC-SEC regular season and postseason pairings. I had hoped with all of the bowl restructuring that came with the CFPs that the two conferences would dissolve some existing tie-ins and develop some new SEC-PAC bowl games.

As was Bama vs. Penn State

JoePa was a no-frills kind of guy. Actually, you may remember when Penn State looked a lot like us. They had the numbers on the helmet and had the same type of numbers on their jersey.
