🏈 Winston headed to the NFL

In the last year alone, Winston, his father and FSU coach Jimbo Fisher have said on multiple occasions that they expected Winston to play two more seasons with the football team after winning the sport's top honor in 2013.

Instead of "looking forward to next season (with FSU) and playing baseball" like Winston said after the Rose Bowl Game loss to Oregon, he will head to the NFL and is expected to be selected near the top of the first round of the draft, set to begin on April 30 in Chicago.

"As I embark in the next challenge of playing in the NFL, I look forward to contributing to a long line of successful alumni at the next level," Winston wrote. "I want you all to know that I will make Seminole Nation proud and continue to bring the passion and love for the game you all have seen in Doak Campbell since my first day as a 'Nole. Thank you for making my time in Tallahassee (some) of the best years of my life."

Winston, seen embattled in the eyes of many because of his off-the-field transgressions during his time at Florida State, helped FSU win its first national championship in 14 years exactly one year ago Tuesday. He won his first 26 games as FSU's starter with his lone defeat coming against Oregon during the semifinals of the first-ever College Football Playoff last Thursday.

"I will always take pride in leading our team back to national prominence and am confident that my returning teammates will continue the success for many years to come," Winston wrote.

Winston finishes his two-year football career 36 yards shy of 8,000 passing yards, with 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions – 18 coming this season alone. He's also scored seven rushing touchdowns, thrown a touchdown in every career game, and completed more than 65 percent of his passes. Winston also has five game-winning drives, with four coming this season alone.

And while his draft stock and talent are clear-cut reasons why Winston would opt for a big payday in the NFL, his comments about his life in Tallahassee during the lead up to his last game for FSU last week were the most telling, foreshadowing his departure.

Winston said aside for attending classes, practice and games on Saturdays, he barely leaves his home in Tallahassee.

"Yeah, it has," Winston said somberly after being asked if it has been hard for him to curtail his lifestyle. "It has. In the season, just staying in my house. Because that's not me.

"I love being around my teammates and the only time I can be around them is in the locker room, you know. I can't celebrate with them. I can't do nothing with it. But, you know, it comes with the territory."

Winston's decision comes a day after cornerback P.J. Williams and defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. decided to forgo their final year of eligibility at FSU and declare for the Draft.

Junior cornerback Ronald Darby, junior defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, and redshirt sophomore kicker Roberto Aguayo are expected to announce their intentions to either stay at FSU or opt for the NFL before then.

Winston made a point to thank personally Florida State fans, his teammates and his head football coach in his statement.

"To the fans, I can't thank you enough for the support you showed me and the team over the last three seasons; it was a humbling experience to bring the Championship back to Tallahassee for you all to enjoy.

"To my teammates, it's been an incredible opportunity to play with the most impressive collection of talent and people the game has seen; you all have been there for me through the highs and lows and the relationships we have formed extend well beyond the field. For this, I thank you.

"To the coaching staff and especially Coach Fisher, I am forever grateful for the ways you developed me as a player and a person as I have grown over the years. I knew I made the right decision to come to Florida State four years ago and couldn't be happier with this choice as I write this today.".

His dad is an idiot and everyone knew it when he said his son would get a degree and play out his eligibility. They're all in it for the money. Plus, another year on campus and he'd be in jail for something.

maybe.....he'd probably have to straight up kill someone in front of a cop and then hand a note to the cop detailing his intentions to kill that person and then only be charged with manslaughter.

in my opinion, the football program and the tallahassee police department are both corrupt.

I know my aunt is one that is more than happy to see his ass go. She is an alumnus of FSU and a retired Dean of Special Education there. She said numerous times that she was ashamed to say she was associated with FSU simply because of Shameis and all of his antics.

@planomateo For me personally I'm glad he's no longer associated with college football. I could care less what he does in the pros. The prgrams I watch aren't pro oriented, so I won't have to hear as much about him as I do now.

Winston will be another Robert Griffin III. Looks like he has upside, but will flip when he gets around others just as talented and more talented. I called Robert Griffin being a bust because he truly never showed anything spectacular in my eyes while at Baylor. Tebow, Newton, and Manziel were way above all the rest talent and statistics wise, Griffin just seemed to be the one folks fell in love with, much like Winston. Just watch and see.

I think Winston, if he gets his attitude sorted out, will be more successful than Mariota, at least off the bat. Mariota seems like more of a developmental guy whereas Winston seems more pro-ready. Mariota-style QBs don't tend to last long in the pros. I really want to see him succeed though.
