🏈 Will the Kent State game answer any questions ?

I was asked today if I thought the Kent State game would answer any questions regarding a potential starter at QB for Penn State and any other positions such as WR for example. My responce was that the Kent State game probably wont tell us too much at all.....but that the Penn State game would tell us alot more about where we stand. Does anyone think that the QB performances in this game will decide who starts at Penn State ? If one of them comes out and completely blows it, I could see it having some effect. Of course this is only true if we see both McCarron and Sims.....which I am assuming we will see both.

I dont see anything happening either unless one of them throws a few interceptions into double coverages etc

One area McElroy improved upon from his Jr to Sr. Season was the ability to know when to just throw the ball away and not risk and INT or a sack. It went un noticed in the stats, but I'll bet NOT by CNS. I'm not sure if two young QBs that are competing as hard as they can, will be able to make those decisions, but I think THAT would be a telling sign the coaches would notice.

They are playing three series a piece, and then rotating. By the time the rotation begins, we'll have been rotating at other positions already.

IOW, there's no way they have an idea on how they'll perform against Penn St. Maybe a clue, nothing solid.

I wouldn't say the guy that takes the first snap against PSU is above the other.

I'd like it settled by week four. Other than that, why worry about it?

Does it even matter?

Here's my thing. Let's assume Sims comes out second, against a worn down defense, and goes for a few quick strikes with our second team OL and against their reserves. What does that tell us?

McCarron can't score in the first against their 1's? Doesn't tell a thing. Kent St. has talent. A little luck and we'll stall along the way.

Besides the Wildcat, what have we had as a "surprise?" The Wildcat wasn't...we released that against Va. Tech. And, we talked about it here before the first kick.

We have no surprises. It's not our team.

We might have a trick play, or two, up our sleeves. But, good stuff? We know what we are going to do, how we are going to do it, and IF we do it we know we'll win.

Kent St has a freshman all-american on defense. I don't think our coaching staff will be quite as dismissive as some here. Not saying they're SEC calibre, just saying we need to focus on the process and play to a standard - as CNS always says - no matter who the opponent is and regardless of whether it's first string or second string or whatever.

We'll see which QB plays more to the "standard" if there is a difference. But like Terry said, I'd like to see us settle on one or the other by the time we play Arkansas.
