NOT effective. I thought cool another formation at first. But after like the 13th time it didn't produce yardage I was ready for it to be gone. Does everybody agree with me that it just isn't for us? Or could someone enlighten me on a postive from it?

I agree. I however don't agree that it's some kind of blasphemy against Bear Bryant and Alabama to use it as some would have you believe. Honestly though, I'm sure the coaching staff will go back over this game and make the proper adjustments. I trust their ability and knowledge about what they think is best for our team.

The formation was one dimensional is all.

We didnt pass out of it. I think giving our opponents as many looks as possible will be benificial in the long run. We will probably do more with it during SEC play.

Man, you know some team is going to get caught cheating the run on that. I bet every DC we play hopes it isnt them.

The Wildcat was trying to run with only 3 legs.

Get a threat split out wide instead GMac standing over there doing nothing & get Ingram, Upchurch, Grant, & Richardson a little passing training & the 3 Legged Wildcat can turn into the High Tide Offense!

What happens when people see the High Tide?? They get the hell out of the water!! Well, at least they try to....mwahahahahahahaha!!!

The Wildcat formation will be effective when we have consistent fakes, players actually block the hole the play is going to, and the RB has patience for the play to develop. Not all the Wildcat play are quick hitters. Did you not notice that the snap Ingram dropped slowed him down enough for the players to do what they needed to do to give him a hole. He had a good gain on that run. We will improve and it will be a good weapon for us. It gives us an extra blocker at the point of attack, which a major reason it's being used.

I don't understand how The 3 Legged Wildcat gave us an extra blocker at the point of attack....please explain.

I think that if the timing can get a little better, the motion man might also take the snap on the run and already be moving. If Ingram or whomever is standing back there makes a good fake of it going the other way, that might work. The operative word being might!

I think it is too early to judge.

One element yet to be considered is what benefit will we gain now that opponents also have to plan for this formation/personnel group as well?

I'm confident that we did not see everything that McElwain can run out of it, so there is surely more to consider. I thought it significant also that Upchurch also ran it, which means that it is likely something that can be pulled out of the hat at anytime.

As the O-Line becomes better as a unit, and as McElroy becomes a more respected passing threat, having this formation with make "Who to put on the field as defenders" a more difficult question to answer.

Well said.

I've yet to see an explanation of your rant last night about us losing a blocker.

11 on 11...10 on 10...

Fact still remains, with Greg lined wide it takes one of their tacklers out of the picture. It did everytime except one, and then Greg was lined up in the slot and didn't make his block.

That and the pistol were not working. No idea why not just run downhill with upchurch, but well see as the season goes on.

I don't think they should throw it out but I would much rather them do it much less and I wanna see a pass out of that formation to keep the offense honest.

I honestly think they will use it a little less after listening to Saban's post game press conference but I think we'll still see it a few times per game and with some new wrinkles.

What are you talking about??? The pistol blew up one time, other than that it was very effective. If nothing else, it allowed the RB to see where the blitz was coming from and meet it head-on. The 48 yard pass to Maze in the 4th quarter (on the drive that we got the lead with) was out of the pistol.

I will withhold judgement on the wildcat until a later date - VT is not a good team to judge it against...but the pistol was outstanding.
