🏈 Why don't we play this Weekend?

There are a number of college football games being played and broadcast today. So my question is why can't Alabama start their season a week earlier that labor day weekend? We could schedule 2 bye weeks and be a much more rested and healthier team as we run through our gauntlet of games.

By the way, in my humble opinion, the absolute best TV station for time and station for college football is an LSU product. So hold your nose if you must but it's really the best weekly and seasonal reminder out there.

It doesn't help us that are poor cable family. Don't say anything about Sling either, that will eat up my bandwidth super fast, :argh:I have to turn off my phone while I'm at home so it won't eat it up also. Sorry @TUSKstuff I'm not getting upset with you, but this come you every year about this same thing. Now I will be waiting for someone to give his two cent?;) Like he always does! :bolt:

Some places Rick are just satellite dish or bust. Lived in a few of those places over the years. I remember back when Primestar was the only hope for the ruralites in slapout Alabama. Back then they had some pretty cheap packages. Hope you get some decent internet soon, then all things are possible.

O law. Live in WVa and had Zero tv.....nuthin
Cable was about Half mile away. And the answer was always.... not building any new lines
Washington state we had 2 channels
Mississippi had 2. But got a C band
Georgia.... could get a couple on good days
Direct TV now...yea! $130/month later

Yep. Would have been great to have a warm up
But have done well....so far...to open big and on neutral site. A week awayl
Roll tide

Alabama doesn't control the Chick Fil A Kickoff game. They invited us to play in their game. If Alabama scheduled a game for this weekend, practice would have to start in July. The second summer session isn't over so too many players would have class. It would also cause problems with scheduling since the SEC dictates when the season starts and stops.

So when I say why don't we, I mean really all of college football. Move the entire college schedule up one week and chick fil A can get their matchups as they do now. Oregon State, Stanford, South Florida are playing today to officially kick off FBS college football, so I assume they started to practice a week early. The season is so short, why not get an extra week out of the regular season by having two byes during the schedule? Not only do you get more viewing pleasure but a lot less wear and tear on your favorite football team.

The season is long. Four weeks of preseason practice, 13 weeks of games (including the bye week), a week for championship game practice, another three weeks for bowl practice and then 10 days before a championship. That's 22 weeks of practice. Starting the season a week earlier adds another week of wear and tear. Again, moving it earlier impacts school attendance in the Summer (some of those attending are getting ready to graduate). Adding another bye week for one team is easy. But doing it for 14 SEC teams is very difficult, if not impossible. Roll it into all the teams and you're looking at a nightmare.

Also if Bama starter tonight no one would be at that boxing/mma fight. That mma fighter wouldn't be getting his 80 mils for showing up either. Just saying!:D

Even Bama can't play that late. I have to say the big fight was a lot more entertaining than some predicted. But when Mayweather started walking him down I knew McGregor was out of bullets.

I didn't think McGregor would win it, I don't think he care he was going to get that money as soon as he step in that ring. He could had done a stooge thing and fell down. Got paid. I really think Mayweather wanted that record too. Also I forgot about it being done in sin city and that along would had make it after midnight here.

Alabama was not eligible to play this past weekend. All of the FBS games were eligible because they involved Hawaii, teams playing at Hawaii in 2017, and the Stanford-Rice game in Australia. The only other teams eligible to play were Fresno State and San Diego State because they are playing at Hawaii this season. The FCS schools are allowed to start a week earlier if their games are being televised.

Bama was not eligible, but Fresno State was, so Bama could have scheduled them as a warm up to the real FSU. Which also would have given them a second week off. Probably never even considered doing that.

No, the SEC just thinks they dictate when the season starts and stops. The NCAA dictates that. The Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic could not have been moved. But Bama could have scheduled the other FSU because they were eligible to play a game. As Oregon State did with Colorado State. CSU was eligible to play because they...wait for it... play at Hawaii this season. OSU joins Stanford as the only two Pac-12 teams with an extra week off. They looked like they needed it.
