šŸˆ Why are the playoff semifinals on New Year's Eve again?

They better have more sense than anyone else with common sense of they want this one to work out.

The fans will watch, regardless. The problem with a NYE game, particularly one that will not be ending until just before the ball drops (EST) is that you lose the casual fan.... and there are far more casual fans than die hard fans.

If the game is on NYE you have Bama and MSU fans watching, and a sizeable portion of the college football audience. Hipster douche and his band of merry fellows aren't watching though. The guy who like football but doesn't have a team isn't watching. The ritzy couple that enjoys football parties without a clue of what's going on, isn't watching. Etc., etc., etc.

It just makes no sense to compete with one of the bigger holidays that don't involve family/friend time when there are other viable options available.

I have a good source into the inner working of these things, and his comment was "some people think they are too smart"

I'm thinking more in line with the fans that attend the games. Jerry Jones's is probably gonna be having some kind of orgasmic reaction to the money he's gonna be raking in on NYE in Dallas with the crowd that'll be there.

I believe the shut down drinks at halftime... so roughly 8:45-9 the drinks stop flowing and you have another hour and a half or two of people sobering up and wanting to get out to enjoy the drop with a beverage....

They may have changed it for the Cotton Bowl, but they stop selling in the concourse and seating areas at the end of 3rd quarter. There's also 10 clubs at the stadium. ;)

Update: if you're going to a NYE party thrown by an Auburn fan, it won't be on. ;)
Oh yea, we just canceled going to a party because an Allbarn fan just decided he would have the game on for us Alabama fans for the first hour then we all would go Downtown and party until the ball is dropped. Hell, They are sniffing too much moth ball odor from where they are storing their Allbarn shirts.

Honestly it doesnt really matter. Ive done new years eve parties all over the world...They are all normally the same. I look at it like this....New years eve comes around the same time every year like clockwork. How many times are you going to be able to watch your team in the college football playoff? I can sit in the comfort of my own home and get as drunk as i want too on new years watching football and not having to deal with other drunk douchebags and be just as happy if not happier than i was partying on new years eve in Germany from 1998-2004. To each their own though. Some people still think new years eve is something special i guess

Oh it's special, I gotta work NYE night, gonna be 3x pay..it's very special.:bamadance:

Ugly as in no contest?
I don't think it will be to this degree, but think about the 3-2 Miss State v Auburn game a few years ago. '

All the OU fans calling into Dari and Mel this morning wanted to talk about how there's a half of a dozen better running backs than Henry, how Bama is over rated, and how much they can't wait to meet the Tide in the NC game and show the nation ... :blahblah:

From conversations with beat writers around the offices, I think Clemson is going to be caught up in the lights and hoopla.

It just leaves me thinking sloppy, ugly football.

It doesn't matter when Bama plays. This isn't the first time Bama has played on New Year Eve. In 1975's first time ever the Sugar Bowl was played in the New Super Dome.

I hate it. Why not put two of the bigger bowls that are planned for New Year's Day on New Year's Eve and put the two playoff games on New Years Day? It sure does eff up a lot of plans. Now I've got to go to a New Years Eve event that I can't get out of and some how still watch pieces of the game. My guess is this format will not be around for long. I got a feeling after a few years of it there will be some changes.

I love it. New Years Eve is completely over rated in my opinion. The game will be over with plenty of time for me to get out and do what I want to do that night. It isn't on CBS, so its not like it'll be a 4-hour commercial-fest.

One of the reasons is the venues involved. Future dates are likely to be on New Year's Day.

As for this year, why did you make plans that didn't include watching the game? They didn't select the date two weeks ago. It's been on the schedule for months.
