Of the top 12 wide receivers in this year's recruiting class, one-third of them are going to Alabama.

Only one school got more than one of the top 12 receivers in the class -- Alabama. The Crimson Tide got four. That doesn't even include Chadarius Townsend, one of the top-ranked "athletes" in this year's class who currently plans to play wide receiver for the Crimson Tide.

Many schools would be ecstatic to land one five-star player in its entire recruiting class. Alabama landed three five-stars just at wide receiver.

Jerry Jeudy is a five-star, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Devonta Smith and Henry Ruggs were each rated as five-stars by at least one of the four recruiting websites. Add in consensus four-stars Tyrell Shavers and Townsend and you have a ridiculously deep and talented wide receiver class.

"I think we're going to have the best receiving core in the country," Shavers said.

Jeudy is the headliner, a 6-foot-1, 177-pound South Florida product who comes from the same area as recent Alabama All-American wide receiver Amari Cooper and current Tide standout receiver Calvin Ridley.

Jeudy was the No. 3 receiver and No. 21 overall prospect in this year's class, according to the 247 Composite.

Smith was the No. 9 wide receiver in the class, per the 247 Composite. Ruggs was No. 11. Shavers was No. 12.

Smith and Ruggs are both "very fast and very explosive," according to Alabama coach Nick Saban said. So is Shavers, who ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds at a recruiting event last year.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Townsend was the sixth-ranked athlete in the class, a local product from Tanner who played quarterback in high school.

Alabama coaches have told him that he reminds them of fellow former high school quarterback ArDarius Stewart, who was a first-team All-SEC wide receiver for the Tide last season.

"There's a lot of people coming in," Townsend said of the receiver class. "It's going to be great competition."

If we only had a QB who could get the ball to them

Yea...Hurts wasnt the most polished passer in Bama history....but.....
How would Deshan Watson fit at Bama....consider.....
Watson as a freshman....1500 yards passing...200 rushing...
Hurts....as a freshman...2800 yards passing...63%....950 rushing...
All Hurts has to do...is improve....as a down field passer...already has the Aptitude...the leadership...the speed...
I think?.we are alright at QB...

Keep in mind, Watson only really played in 4 games his FR year. He logged zero stats for 5 games and had 4 or fewer pass completions in 3 other games. If you take his yards per attempt for his FR year and apply it to Jalen's attempted pass his FR year... you'd come up with 4,100 yards... which is a significant margin away from the 2,800 yards Jalen had.

Hurts did fine as a FR, but has some issues on form and on timing when it comes to passes. We'll see how well he improves over the Spring/summer and hopefully comes out in Fall a much better passer. The good thing is... if he continues to struggle, there is another QB right behind him waiting his turn and I don't think Saban is all that afraid to make a change if needed.

It will all work out just fine.

Absolutely true...but Hurts also beat out a returning QB...with game experience...a 5star With superstar rating...
....And went 14-1.... Am a big Hurts fan....and cant wait for his second season...roll tide

Bateman had some mop up duty time, but was never going to be the starter...
Barnett had NO game experience and only 1 year experience more than Jalen (they both early enrolled)...

It's not surprising that Jalen won the job... He really wasn't going up against any competition. Had Barnett had some game time experience or another year under his belt and was able to get rid of the deer in headlights syndrome... it would have been a lot harder for Jalen to take the starting job.

I'm not down on Jalen, but don't make him out to be superman... He was/is very good and level headed... that took him a long way, but his short comings in the passing game hurt him down the stretch and will have to get better if he wants to keep his starting role. I too am looking forward to his 2nd year and seeing how much improvement is made. He has the right mind set for the QB spot and a lot of ability with his legs... if he can package the passing game in with that, he'll be one of the best... but that is yet to be determined.

I'm pumped about Jeudy and Ruggs. Jeudy's route running was just straight up NASTY for a kid that age. He routinely shook defenders like they were 12-year olds and Ruggs needs to be returning punts and kickoffs from day one. He is electric with the ball in his hands.
