🏈 Who says Roll Tide when away from Alabama?

I ROLL TIDE all the time. I'm in Ohio State country, so i have a lot of fun with it.

The other day I was leaving a store wearing a zip-up jacket with "Bama" on the front. An old man wearing an Ohio State cap was walking in the opposite direction. As he came abreast of me he asked rather sarcastically, "Does that jacket say Obama?" I Answered, "Sir, you and I both know this jacket doesn't say Obama. Roll Tide!" He grunted and went on his way.

People up here take serious offense to foreigners wearing out-of-state sports gear, especially if said gear even hints at being associated with the SEC. That of course just adds to the fun.

Hmm..Last time I went up to Columbus, the Ohio State fans were really cool and got a few Roll Tides from them. I'm guessing they're sensing that there will be an Ohio State vs Alabama match-up for the title, so they're getting testy. USC fans out here were doing it last year and were getting awfully lippy.

Having lived out west for quite a while, I don't run into many other Bama fans but when I do they definitely get a "Roll Tide."My kids have all been born and raised out here and my oldest son was in 8th grade when he went with me to Tuscaloosa for his first game. At one point that day he said to me, "I can't believe I can look around here and every person I see is an Alabama fan!" My youngest made his first trip for the 2011 Tennessee game and declared it the best day of his life.

Whenever I see another person in Bama attire I always give them a Roll Tide
I do as well. Sometimes I get the occasional "confused" look tho, being here in Ohio. The person generally doesn't recognize right off that there are other "friendlies" in this area so it takes them a second to respond. Once they do, it's like "Roll Tide, where ya from boy? What ya doin' up here"? I generally ask the same question of them.

I almost always greet other Bama fans with a Roll Tide when out of town (and away from Alabama)... I received a ton of "Roll Tide's" at Orange Beach last week on the days I wore a UA shirt around... some came from fans of other schools, even an FSU fan. Funny story, a few years ago, a guy tried very heard to buy the Bama hat I was wearing in Sausalito, CA (by SF). He was a local, and offered me 40 bucks I think... It was the only hat I had with me, so I declined, but dude really wanted a Bama hat. I can't think of a trip I've taken where I haven't run into a Bama fan at some point. I was at a Mets game once and a few rows down, a chick was wearing a UA hat.

I rock my gear and my ROLL TIDE everywhere I go, including when I studied abroad in China, and of course all over the south when I did my big road trip 2 months ago. Everyone back home is a Penn State or Notre Dame fan, and everyone here in DC are transplants. But here the ones I see are usually Ohio State, VA Tech, Notre Dame, and Michigan. I saw 6 folks in Auburn gear yesterday and strode past them with a big smile while wearing my "How we ROLL" shirt .. Teehee.

I give/get the most 'roll tides' at the DC Bama bar, at Old Dominion Brewhouse. Games there are really fun, and taking the Metro (subway) to the bar is great because gradually more fans get on the train and we all start 'ROLL TIDE'ing at each other. Can't wait for VA Tech ..

I give it a "Roll Tide" every time I see Alabama attire away from Tuscaloosa. Sometimes I get a reply, and sometimes people just don't get it and don't realize I'm speaking to them, but oh well. I'm moving to Charleston, South Carolina in August, so you best believe in Gamecock and Clemson Tiger territory I'll be giving it a big Roll Tide and hanging my flag on my porch. Roll Tide.

When you move there, you have to experience a game that features both Clemson and South Carolina too see how intense that rivalry really is. Those people take it to a whole new extreme.

Approached by the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police)

Was in the parking lot of a highway coffee shop today (Ontario, Canada), waiting outside my RAV4 for a guy whom I met on the Net and to whom I was selling a set of Toyota hub caps. While waiting for him, suddenly an OPP cruiser (think State Police in the USA) pulls up nearby. Two officers get out, one draws his sunglasses and approaches me. Okay.. getting nervous here. What'd a I do? The cop suddenly smiles and says... you a Bama fan? (Noticing my Tide tire cover on my RAV4). Next thing I know, we're talking football, the coming season, our trips to Tuscaloosa etc, before giving each other a ROLL TIDE, as the officers depart into the coffee shop for some coffee. Gotta love life small social anomalies, especially when it's meeting fellow Canadian Bama fans. And there's more up here than you might think. ROLL TIDE!

Up here in Canada, I've given a Roll Tide to:
- a Bama fan in a hardware store.
- a Bama fan / Gardening store manager
- a Coca Cola rig driver (he was a Ducks fan btw)
- most recently a provincial (State) trooper who was a Bama fan.
- also clerk in a food store who's a Bama fan.
- a woman who lives a couple blocks away who I recently found out is from Tuscaloosa, but lives here now.
- and then there was that dipsh*t Notre Dame fan who, prior to the BCS game, drove by screaming at me out his window IRISH IRISH IRISH!!

So jealous that you're moving to Charleston! My dream right now is to get a job in Alabama or Charleston.

That's awesome, as is the cop story! :D

This is probably a dumb question but are there a lot of American college football fans up there? What are the most popular teams?

I was on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls (way better than the American side!) a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to see a West Virginia football magnet on a car with a Quebec license plate!

Yeah College ball is popular up here with people who appreciate REAL football, as opposed to that fluffy "don't worry we can win next week and still make the playoffs with 65% win record" NFL :jackoff2: league. LOL.

Popular College teams are generally the big names. Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida (have a sports bar near me called Gator Ted's with the crock logo et el), Notre Dame, Oregon Ducks, Wisconsin, etc. My Physiotherapist liked Virginia Tech cuz his girlfriends uncle is a "platinum Hookie" member. Two years ago during the BCS, saw a guy in my neighbourhood with an LSU jacket. And on the Toronto subway a year back I struck up a conversation with a Michigan fan and a high school football coach who knows Nick Saban. And two months ago I actually met an Auburn fan on the street, and he gave me a War Eagle.. like that has meant anything for the past 2 years. But I think I 'm one of the few maniacs in Canada to drive around with football car magnets, car flag, license plate frame, and tire cover. Yeah.. I get looks!!!
