🏈 Who says Roll Tide when away from Alabama?

So went to McKinney, TX yesterday to walk around the square (see picture above of what it looks like) and stroll through some of the shops for Mothers Day. While we were walking, I noticed a young man, looked to be in his early 20's with an older man (assume it was his dad). Anyways, the young man had on a long sleeve shirt with an Auburn logo. I had on my State Traditions 13 hat (thanks for linking to these Terry a few years ago) and I gave him a "Roll Tide", he kept walking and you could hear the older man say, "Son, did you hear what he just said, did you hear what he just said", so I turned around to smile and he managed to get out a "War Eagle", to which I mustered a final "Roll Tide". My kids give me grief all the time for talking with almost every Alabama fan I see and giving Auburn/Tennessee fans Roll Tides all the time.

I do this almost every time I see an Auburn fan, I've had some great discussions with many of them through the years. There are quite a few Auburn and Alabama fans around the area, so it makes for some good fun away from home...

So that brings me to the questions...

Do you guys do similar if you don't live in the area or am I the only one?
Do you greet other Alabama fans with a Roll Tide when in other states?

Whenever I see another person in Bama attire I always give them a Roll Tide.

Another thing I do when I have Pizza delivered is ask the delivery person to scream Roll Tide. The louder the yell the better the tip. Believe it or not I have even had Auburn fans yell Roll Tide for a good tip. One thing I would not do, no matter how big the tip is yell War Eagle.

I don't have #15 yet.

Anyway, to this day, the only person who saw the hat and understood what it meant was a Vandy grad. Perhaps, he's the only person willing to admit he understood what it meant? :td:

A few months ago I was talking a walk while on a break and passed a guy who was wearing a crimson, script A hat. That day, I happened to be wearing one like it except it was one of the gray denim styles.

I made a comment "I've got a hat just like that one." He pointed to mine and said, "oh, Auburn?" He was just an idiot that evidently found the hat or someone had given it to him. I don't know.

I tend to notice Bama car tags more than personal apparel. Usually, I tend to hold the RT's unless I'm in a sports bar, etc. If not, it tends to lead into conversations that I really didn't have time for...and I'm the one starting them.

I do it all the time.

And have even gotten SEVERAL

"high fives" out of a perfect stranger

while walking down the sidewalk.

Because of it.

My wife - thinks I'm a RedNeck

Imagine that......................

I think we all do that. Everytime I go visit family in Arkansas I do it constantly. It doesnt matter what state I've been in tho ALWAYS we'll come up on a fellow Bama fan at some point and exchange Roll Tides. We took a family trip to the mountains (Tennessee) a few years ago and went to Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Fordge. They do this little band before the show starts and the band noticed us all sitting at a table in the front and of course most of us were wearing Bama gear so they started playing Sweet Home Alabama and we screamed Roll Tide during it like everyone does at the games. You could hear a collective groan from the Tennessee fans lol

Yes, I'll throw out a Roll Tide when I encounter a Bama fan wearing it proudly, and will throw up a wave when I catch a Bama front or vanity plate. There's a fair number around Georgia, but I get an occasional opportunity in the Carolinas.

RTR,

Tim

Terry, what kinda car tags - personalize plates or just the frames around the plates?

All the above, but mainly those on the front of a car. Collegiate tags like those jump out at me especially those Bama related. I really don't see a lot of frames around tags in these parts.

There is one family here in town that's had BAMAFAN for years...love to get that one if possible but until they die I know they'll never give it up. Personalized plates aren't really something you see a lot here either.

They've recently added the Alabama license plate here in the state. That's coming as soon as the current tag expires (state law.) In addition to the regular registration fees it's only an additional $36 every two years. That's half the price of Auburn, Florida State, UGA, NC State and other ones that are available. Ohio State is available at an additional $40 per year.

It's the Alumni Associations discretion how they are priced as far as I can tell...don't know for sure though.

90% of the Carolina's shoot at you banker types!!

I will give a Roll Tide, but my wife is real shy so I often receive them first. As for Barners and others, I just give em a big ole grin while wearing my BAMA gear. Often times the only response from them is a lowering of their eyes to the ground!! I LOVE IT!!

Terry, I have the Pewter Houndstooth hat car tag on the front of my Jeep. The wife and kids bought it for me several years ago!!

They must not be very good shots. I actually find the folks North Carolina pretty hospitable. The Triangle has so many local rivals they seem to tolerate outsiders.

That's not what you, or I, would call football country either. Raleigh would be the closest thing, right? Now, if NC State joins the SEC in the near future...
