🌎 When you have a weird political discussion. This one with a guy running for City Council.

The door bell rings. It's dark, I look at my video feed and see three guys and none of them I know. So, I answer the door and let's say I'm prepared.

Ends up he's running for City Council. So I'm, "aight."

He goes on to claim where he grew up and how long he's been around here. Hrmmph. Stop sign. I know the area, and the people.

So I ask him...do you know "______" listing off a few names. He responds, "yeah, my kids are playing in their dad's yard right now." I'm like, "hold up. Do you know Jimmy?" (Lived across the street from where he claimed his kids were playing.)

"Yeah, he passed about a year ago."

Truth.

So, I spent a few minutes talking with him and suggested he go to a specific house around the corner. He responded, "you mean Joey?" That made me pause and I told him, "I'm calling these people just to see."

Ends up. Truth again. What's crazy here is one guy I called told me I'd met the guy a quarter of a century ago when he was a kid. I met his mom...played chess with his dad while drinking Crown on Sunday's...

...

I had a neighbor stop by yesterday and bring me some of her homemade croutons. (Oh, yeah, they are GOOD!) I mentioned him to her, told her the story, and followed it with "I don't know his policies, I know his family."

I'm left with two thoughts this morning.

One, I know him and his family. I might disagree with his views; but I know who he is. So, I got a few signs and I agreed to get them up at a local store, etc....something I have never done in my life.

Second thing was this...when I mentioned him to my neighbor she looked up his views. It hadn't been 30 minutes since we'd been talking about a sound barrier in the back of the neighborhood and sure as shit, it's one of the things on his platform.

I stopped. Read. Everything he has listed on his material ... I agree with.

@ElephantStomp he's a D. But. His family is "Old Charleston Democratic" that moved from downtown a half of a century ago. Hamilton. A downtown Charleston name. Old one. This is an example of how you label me and where my vote goes.

Ya never know until you talk...my "Ted Talk" for the weekend.

@Krimson

She bakes her own rye and then comes back with a little extra flavor on top of it...garlic, chives, and butter based.

Her croutons are good enough to where sometimes, where you would grab a little bite like peanuts or chips, you grab a few of those. If I would have been thinking back in the days of the pub when we really had our pizza killing it...I'd have put those out for a bar snack.

We did those a lot...but it was NEVER a community bowl scenario. I can't tell you how many times I answered the question on why I would only give out a small bowl at a time. "I don't want your fingers in my snacks. Do you want mine in yours? Plenty of refills...just yell."

Sounds like an awesome bar snack and yeah I only eat at the ones that give you a bowl when you sit down. Sharing a bowl is one thing, sharing snacks another.

That’s a crazy story

That’s a crazy story
And, a true story. Fascinating as well. His real name...

His campaign signs are "Donnie." That's a discussion in itself if you look up Donnimechia Singleton. He did that on purpose because no one would vote for a guy with that first name...no matter its meaning.

You have to understand the surname Singleton and the community from Old Charleston. And, this is why I don't like the "blue bloods" of this tri-county area. But again...another thread. (I don't mind billing the shit out of them when they don't know what they are talking about...oh shit. Never mind.)

There is a guy that was on the council for a few years...I could take a PW, hooded down, and knock out his front window right now. He never knocked on my door. Never said hello when I saw him at the store. Never said shit.

Circling back just to get into a conversation with you. What part of this story says, "R?"

Up to a point but then it’s “I know more than you” and all the standard BS Democratic rhetoric that has no basis in truth (Republicans are racists. Tax breaks for the wealthy. Elimination of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc., etc.)
I got ya. Lady gonna be here in a few and we're having (oh, do I want to admit this) corn dogs from Sonic and Onion Rings...but, it's an area where, when, I see the yield sign I pause. I don't stop. I pause.
