Auburn has been living on lucky bounces for over a year. They played several games they should have lost last year and of course we have Utah State and Miss State this year. Then they get a banged up Florida team that they win in a less than impressive fashion. So the rest of the year they play LSU, UGA, Ole Miss, Samford, and Bama. The win versus Samford is a given and they will have the 6 win bowl eligible status. So what will their "luck" grant them in the run versus LSU, UGA, Ole Miss, and Bama. We can only hope they go 1-3 in that run. I am absolutely tired of hearing Auburn fans talk about how they are still in the run for the SEC West and any minor praise they get from ESPN. Finding a way to win...PLEASE....

And to that note also I work here in Atlanta and after the Dawgs lost to Boise State/ South Carolina they were ready to jump off the roof declaring how bad they were. now they believe they can goto the SECCG and compete with a Bama or LSU. :lance:
 
I feel your pain and you didn't even mention how they skated with the NCAA (I still think there is some kind of collusion going on there, but...). We can't do anything about it except beat the living snot out of them at Jordan-Hare in humiliating fashion and just have faith that Karma will works its wonders at the right time.
 
Oh, and I think the book was called The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant, so I'll change that to this year: The Year the Aubbies Lost the West. Trent Richardson can play the part of Joe Hardy.
 
We beat Ole Miss; they're terrible. Whether you hate AU or not, you have to admit The Right Reverend Nutt has lost his team.

As for UF, I don't think the outcome is vastly different with Brantley. Their WRs were covered fairly well. Demps was out also but we covered their runs fairly well. Our D isn't as bad as it was early.

Yes, we should have lost to Utah State. Dan Mullen beat State for us and the wheels have come off their season.

LSU, UGA and Bama--I'm not horribly confident in those. I think our D is playing well enough to give a fighting chance if the offense weren't so anemic. Mosely will get his first start in Death Valley. While I'm not excited about it, it is better than Trotter!

On Ole Miss I wouldnt count them out against Auburn. Before this week Auburn ranked the lowest in every category in the SEC, and now after the Bama loss Ole Miss is ranked 11th/12th. Don't worry Auburn only jumped to 10th/8th.

As for Florida, I wouldn't say the outcome would have been similar. The Gators are using a 3rd string true freshman. Brantley had them rolling until the last drive of the 2nd quarter of the Bama game. To say a Senior QB wouldn't have been more effective makes no sense. And not to mention Demps not playing either.

As for LSU/ UGA/ Bama. I don't see Auburn beating LSU/ Bama mostly due to the defenses. As for UGA they always find ways to beat themselves.

Auburn is winning, but winning ugly.

I will not say their D has gotten any better simply b/c of who they have played. Considering the good offensive teams they have faced & lost (Arkansas & Clemson), they suck. No way am I counting USCe, b/c Garcia is such a head case. I am more fired up about facing this team than LSU... I want them ground into dust.
 
No denying their defense sucks, but they are making a tackle now and again (as opposed to the first 2 games). My point was more to the O, where I think they are in total disarray. Their passing production is tanking, and unless they can buy someone mid-season, I'd say their in trouble.

Has tanked.

The only positive is at least Mosely will at least get the ball out of his hands, unlike Trotter. I'm not sure how he will work out long term but at least he doesn't just stand there. First start in Death Valley with inconsistent o/line play--not promising.
 
Defense is ok. Hard to gauge them when they played Florida who is using about 5 QBs this game which I still don't get. I'd have made a game plan around 1 and stuck with him. Charlie Weiss running his mouth again about it is starting to get annoying. He's not even a good coach or established. Their offense is terrible against anyone who knows how to play their assignments. They will use nearly an identical game plan to Florida, misdirection to mess up assignments and a few WR picks and screens. Though without a better QB, that system is bound to fail eventually.

My point on UF was the WRs weren't open and their o-line wasn't keeping our line out. A different QB doesn't change coverages nor does it make the line effective.

And yes, Auburn's D stunk it up early and didn't look stellar against Arkansas but not many defenses would be able to withstand their talent when the offense didn't move the ball AT ALL. Our D played far too much and had far too much pressure on it. Hell, they really needed to score points because our offense's wheels had come off and been taken away at that point. All things considering, it could've been far worse.

And yes, I'm writing off Ole Miss. They're terrible. Our D is at least improving and if nothing else we can run the ball on them. I'm not at all worried about that game. If I end up being wrong I will gladly come back and eat crow.

As for Bama and LSU, I'm afraid you're right. Even if the defense holds, as poor as our offense has been the D will inevitably wear down. Roof has at least shown the ability to scheme and take a team's strength away to keep the game close, i.e. 2009 Iron Bowl. Unfortunately, we don't have the QB play nor consistency at the WR like we had in 2009. Even when Trotter has been able to put the ball on the money the WRs haven't helped him. I don't mean this as a slight at all, but I think those games will boil down to our currently inept offense more than the strong defenses Bama and LSU have. If our offense was putting up any numbers, I'd say the defense but we aren't. Of course Bama and LSU have two of the best D units in the country. Dre, Mathieu and Clairborne are arguably the best DBs in the country--mix that in with an inept offense...

If Gus has any magic left he better split it between the LSU and Bama games.

I still can't make up my mind on UGA. They will be favored but I think they're beatable. Their offense isn't such that they can keep us from making it an ugly game and if we keep it low scoring (not a problem on our end!) I think we have a chance.
 
Auburn's most impressive win this year was beating South Carolina at Columbia. Marcus Lattimore was held in check. The defense looked much better than they had up to that point.

I think Auburn is a young, inexperienced team that has started to gel. Yes, they got hammered at Arkansas and Clemson, but that's two road losses to Top Ten teams.

Gene Chizik deserves credit for one thing more than anything else, and it's the biggest reason they pulled off the victories against Utah State and Mississippi State: he has instilled a never-say-die mentality in his players. They will fight you to the very end.

It's like Bear Bryant said: it's not the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog.
 
While anyone who reads what I post here, or knows me in the everyday world knows that I am not by any stretch an AU fan, I do have a grudging admiration for a team that manages to hang around late in games that they on paper had no business being in, then finding a way to win at the end. That speaks to preparation and character.

They should be getting Blake back soon. While that won't make then Arkansas like in their passing game, it does give them a legitimate down the field threat. When they began this season I did not think they could get to be bowl eligible. Now, if they can find a way to beat Georgia they will get a mid tier bowl.

While I respect the observation of your team there are things you cannot measure with a starting QB being injured, and the backup, and the fastest guy on your team. Florida had been slapped around by the two best defenses in the SEC in back to back weeks. They have had to alter their offense to fit a true freshman. Motivation does make the O-line play better and those smothered WR's get open. But it also could not have mattered at all. Who knows.

While I would love to share his optimism, with the offensive product we've seen as of late, it is difficult to imagine being competitive at LSU or Bama for that matter
