Does anyone know when the team came back home? If so, was there any Alabama fans there to greet them?

I remember after the first Auburn game at Pat Dye field, we lost. My mom took my brother and I that night to the Tuscaloosa airport to have us cheer and show our support for the team. It is a memory burned into my mind in Crimson flame.

I was just wondering and hoping that people did the same after the Sugar Bowl.

They didn't fly home. They all came home on their own, so there would have been no "meeting the team".

Remember, players are given travel money calculated from their hometown to go to and from the bowl site. Most of them will carpool down and back and save alot of money to have for pocket money. That is the reason Star Jackson was the only one to miss the first practice down there when they reported.

Correct. I read that Saban actually prefers to be able to meet because it allows the players to actually profit from the deal. I don't know if it's an NCAA rule or a common sense one, but he said anything within a 5-hour radius allows the team to meet at the bowl site. The players are able to pocket the travel money. Technically it's per diem to be used for mileage and food, but much of the food is provided for the team in N.O. If guys ride together they're able to split the gas cost as well.

I actually love this allowance for the team. It allows them to get a little bit of money for once. I see it as a great benefit. I do have concerns about accidents and such, but unless and until something like that happens I think it's a great perk.

I know that has been the practice since the 89 season when we went to New Orleans. The possibility of an accident does scare me but the idea that players to get something extra is good as well.

If memory serves me correctly, linebacker Michael Rogers was driving to New Orlens for the 1993 Sugar Bowl, fell asleep behind the wheel, ran of the road and was sufficiently injured to miss the game.

True Psycho, that was the case. That is the downside to allowing players to travel on their own for a bowl trip. I recall after the 2000 Orange Bowl that we stopped for gas and ran into several players that were driving in together. Terry Jones,Jr. being one such player.

Not sure if it was the band or what but as many driving out of New Orleans after 11 am Sat morning can attest there was about 6 chater buses with police escout and U of Alabama vans on I 59 north. It didn't help traffic as it was pretty bad all the way home.

I don't know why, but that makes me sad.

It makes me sad to lose 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl.

HURT FEELINGS

As much as I hate it for the team. I am happy for their season of high tides. On the other hand, it was as depressing to witness the hurt faces of both the players and fans. We traveled well and were well represented and behaved. Our love for the Tide is unexplainable for someone who doesn't know what it feels like to win, and win big! It is call the winning Tradition! ROLL TIDE to all of you and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
