My only Iron Bowl game . . . 1973 . . . Bama - 35, Auburn - 0. On the game's first play, Wilbur Jackson went 80 yds for a touchdown. After the game, Ken Bernich, Auburn's all-everything LB, said, "The best team didn't win today."
Alabama-aubrun 1985 is tough to beat. Although Tiffin's FG was incredible, the lead changes and shifts in momentum were stuff of legend. Had we not surrendered the lead to set the stage for Tiffin, the run by Jelks would have been on canvas.
I enjoyed the Iron Bowl last year. I dont think my stomach came out of my throat until the clock struck 0:00. I love edge of the seat kind of games. When Upchurch scored that last touchdown I almost fell because I was jumping in my seat. Also sat by some trash talking Barners who didnt shutup until we took the lead....it was just lovely.
My favorite is the first Alabama Auburn game that I attended. I was just a kid, it was 1959 and my dad somehow came up with tickets. It was bitterly cold, but I hardly noticed. We scored a TD on a pass to Scooter Dyess, kicked a field goal and held on for dear life. It was the quick kick and then play defense. Bama 10, Auburn 0, and an era of domination was just beginning. :td:
Chik-fil-a kickoff classic against Clemson. The ride home on the marta with all the Clemson fans saying how good our team looked!! They didn't have anything else to say but Alabama had a really good team, no excuses.
Considering i've only ever been to like 3 or 4 (all since CNS got here) i'd have to say the 08 iron bowl. 36-0.
1. My 1st Iron Bowl
2. it'll probly be the only one i can attend for a very long time.. Cant afford it. even if it's just me going.
3. we beat the snot out of them.
4. The look on Kody Burns face as he looked @ me boarding the bus and i Said, "Ya played a good game son. you'll do better next year, just keep Tommy out of the duck blind"
Bama-UT in 02. We went into Knoxville and opened a can of whoop arse after losing 7 straight. The team came into the corner of the endzone at the end and sang with the fans for about 30 minutes it was awesome.
It doesn't get any better than seeing Bama win the NC, and I have seen them win 3, and should have seen 4. The first was against Auburn in 1961(also saw the icing on the cake against Arkansas in the 1962 Sugar Bowl). The second was against Penn State in the 1979 Sugar Bowl. I was a Sugar Bowl season ticket holder in the late 70's and early 80's. I still can't believe I sold my tickets and didn't see Bama win it again against Arkansas in the 1980 Sugar Bowl. The third was against Miami in the 1993 Sugar Bowl.
The 1985 Iron Bowl. Bama beat Auburn. Van Tiffin kicked a fifty-two yard FG as time expired for a one-point victory. It's the only Iron Bowl I've seen in person. The lead changed four times in the fourth quarter. Bama got the ball with fifty seconds left and was trailing by two points. Auburn's Bo Jackson won the Heisman that year so it was especially sweet to beat them, and it's always cool to be able to say you saw a Heisman winner in person (I also saw Doug Flutie and Mark Ingram). It was the fiftieth Iron Bowl.
The best game I ever attended was Bama vs. UGA 1994. Barker vs. Zier (sp?). I sat in the UGA section the first half. They were giving me a tough time since UGA was up 21-10 and half and Zier (sp?) looked unstoppable. I told them, "we are down, we've got you right where we want you".
Then, 2 UGA fans came up the row holding up tickets and saying they wanted to swap with some Bama fans just so they could sit with the UGAs. I traded them. I got to watch the 2nd half comeback/Jay Barker passing clinic from the 35 yard line about half way up
'92 National Championship Game -- It was my Senior year at Bama, I was in New Orleans with a group of friends, and we has something to celebrate. It could not have been better.
Last year's LSU game was great as well. Reunited with an old military buddy. Julio's break-away catch and run had him running straight toward us as we were four rows up in the North End Zone. We could see Julio's "business-face" melt into one of celebration as clear as day. More than "I was there", I WAS THERE.
