The SEC passed a series of legislative proposals during at the conclusion of its annual Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida.

SEC proposals

  • Increase bowl revenue distribution by $25,000 per game and require cost of unused tickets by deducted prior to distribution
  • Reimburse football teams participating in SEC Championship for cost of tickets used by athletes for guests
  • NCAA Sport Sponsorship and Grants-in-Aid funds will be sent by NCAA to the SEC office to be divided into 15 equal shares
  • Amend SAT/ACT score variance standard that leads to a review from the testing agency and submission of a report to the conference
  • Amend the "serious misconduct" policy
NCAA proposals

  • Allow more than one athletic department staff member to serve on institution's professional sports counseling panel
  • In basketball, once a player signs a National Letter of Intent or financial aid agreement an off-campus visit by coach will no longer count as a recruiting day
  • Remove "departmetn-wide" responsibilities within NCAA legislation having to do particularly with strength and conditioning staffs, which have grown in size
  • Establish a dead period in women's soccer from Dec. 15 to Jan. 5
  • Changes to when official and unofficial visits can be conducted in softball
  • Changes to when official and unofficial visits can be conducted in gymnastics
  • Changes to the softball recruiting calendar
Athletic director actions

  • Authorized commissioner to negotiate and finalize agreement to hold SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover
  • Approved purchase of conference-wide Football Game Revenue Protection Insurance against losses from cancellation or postponement
  • Approved change to Commissioner's Regulations concerning interrupted games so games that would unlikely to end before 1:30 a.m. local time will not be resumed
  • Approved format to men's golf championship to create two days of match play
  • Approved the use of the video feed from the replay booth in football to be used on in-stadium video boards
  • Continue use of independent medical observer in the press box for all SEC football games and non-conference games
