I can somewhat understand where Slive is coming from here. I'd be pissed too.

1. Miss State contacts the SEC about improper recruitment from the Newton's.
2. NCAA ask for all evidence of such so they can investigate.
3. MSU does not comply with the request of evidence and finally gives some of it 6 months after the request.
4. Someone from MSU leaks the information they passed to the SEC and ALSO speaks of actual recording of conversations.
5. The media is now running with the information that MSU didn't provide to the NCAA in January and the NCAA is standing by wondering why in the hell the SEC didn't pass along information to them regarding the taped conversations.

As a supervisor, I can definitely understand where Slive is coming from. I'd be pissed too if I was handed pieces of information about a problem in my company and had to learn about the rest of the information by watching Sportscenter while getting ready for work.

I believe MSU was ALSO trying to cover up the secret meetings with Cecil while discussing money. I also believe MSU seriously entertained the thoughts of paying the money.

Pretty much the way it went down IMO

My guess is when the NCAA recommended they declare Cam ineligible, earlier today reportedly, Auburn had to go the official "no comment" route. Before that it doesn't look like anyone was snooping around Auburn officially so they were probably in a gray area and decided to play it fairly aggressively.

My guess is tomorrow is Cam's last game for a while.

If the NCAA had actually make that suggestion, we should and would sit him today. It won't save us anything to play him one more week and then sit him for the rest of the ride. If the NCAA made that suggestion, it would happen. I realize we are talking semantics here but Chizik and Jacobs' quotes have said Cameron is eligible AT AUBURN. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but given how far State's hands seem to be in this, that seems a telling statement. At the same time, I could be wrong and we could get hammered for this. But again, we wouldn't ignore their recommendation even for one more week.

Wouldn't you get angrier at your child if they were eating cookies, you told them to stop and then they shoved just one last one in their mouth?

I haven't disagreed with a lot that you've said, but I disagree here. If Cam is ruled ineligible, they are going to take the 10 games anyway. What does it matter if they sit him for 1 or 2? That's worse case.

If Cam ISN'T ruled ineligible and Auburn sits him, they possibly lose the next 2, and the chance for a dream season. No way should Auburn sit him now. Not after 10 games. If they knew of a possible investigation in July, they should have suspended him then and ask the NCAA to reinstate him. Instead, they played him hoping it was nothing, and now the NCAA was forced into an investigation (not on their timeline) because of the media. IF there is wrongdoing, sitting Cam now will not gain any favor with the NCAA. So you might as well go with the initial plan and play the kid while hoping there is nothing to the allegations.

I absolutely see the logic and I can't argue it. I'm just afraid if they "suggest" we sit him and we thumb our nose at them that things could get uglier. Granted, to date no one has said Auburn paid him anything, to the contrary all sources say they weren't involved. Unfortunately when it comes to the NCAA I'm a "glass half full" kind of guy. If the NCAA makes the suggestion I'd prefer they just sit him and put it behind us.

No one seems to be running with Cecil's admission...........bogus?

Seems like people on the AU Boards are paniced by it. I am totally shocked that Schad hasn't said something about it. I figured when ESPN referenced "New updates in the Cam Newton eligibility saga" that is the story they would break.

I have hard time believing it is bogus. Seems like something that potentially damning would be all over the place. Maybe ESPN finally tired of leading stories with "Sources say?"

ESPN (and others) are probably wary since it isn't a quote from Cecil. Also, it might contradict a story they (ESPN) are going to be running next week.

I'm waiting to hear back from the guy that broke the initial story out of ATL. Word-usage is paramount to where this actually goes from here. His article says Cecil "discussed" extra benefits. The stuff on Twitter and the TideSports article say he "solicited" money. I know it is splitting hairs but that "little" detail is huge. How was it discussed" Did Rogers/Bond/Whoever approach Cecil and say "Let's talk money, what'll it take to get this thing done?" Or did Cecil go to them and say "Let's talk money--it'll take $X to get my son."

I know there were reports earlier quoting Cecil as saying "it won't be free" this time. There were also reports that there were taped conversations corroborating someone's accusations. Some of this stuff is true, some of this stuff is bogus. As we all know, there are embellishments as there are in any story. The whole BS about the Julio/Ingram fishing trip--it seems like every day there was some new detail being added to it. I was waiting on the pictures showing Julio slaying a dragon by choking it with his braids to save the old man that took him fishing. My point is in every story there is some truth, ultimately those reporting it control what details and what truths come out.

For the record, so no one misconstrues what I say as hijacking/deflecting/pointing fingers--clearly the fishing trip incident was crap. I'm just using that as an example to illustrate the amount of extra stuff that makes it into stories. Obviously there was not much too that. Obviously, there is something to the Cecil/MSU debacle. The one thing I'm certain of at this point is regardless of how that conversation went, Cecil Newton is an ass. Say for the sake of argument that MSU approached him with an offer, he should've thought of his son's future and walked the hell away from it.

It was Reported by several Different news reporters, C.Newton approached the Dirtbags for money! Come on Duder, I know it sucks and breaks your heart. :panic:They apparently need the bricks to be falling off the wall to finally let it sink in. The guy asked for money. what difference does it make in the tone or whatever in his voice? Greed! Greed! Greed! I am amazed at how people refuse to take the blinders off.

Even after a full week of allegations I am not sure they will get caught. I think that there might be something to the allegations but I am still having trouble thinking Auburn or the Newtons will be caught in any wrong doing.
