🏈 What did you folks think about the refs?

I didn't see him "twist, turn, or pull..."

What I saw was a stiff-arm that was on the face mask and as I recall there isn't anything about a "hands to the face" type rule covering a QB versus defender.

And, if I recall correctly, it seems GD made a reference to that fact just after that play.

I disagree, it was a pull at the least, as it was a pure and simple horse collar. Just my observation ass munch.:biggrin_blue:

The targeting penalty was utter b.s, but aTm got one back with that stupid personal foul they got called on them for that dude continuing the play with I helmet

Oh god, that was horrible but its also the rule so as bad as it was its just one of those awful rules. You lose you're helmet you're supposed to stop right there. I hate it but its a rule.

I don't mind the rule if the helmet comes off he has to stop playing. So if you continue you should get a penalty. Can you imagine the lawyer fiasco if some dude got his skull crushed when colliding with someone's helmet, knee, etc? I today's "player safety #1" era I think its a legitimate rule. I like it more than the targeting rule which has sooooo much more a gray area of infinite scenarios to define "targeting" per any given play.

I wished they'd reviewed TJ's rush just prior to the fumble. Sure looked like the ball crossed the goal line before he was down. Talk about changing the course of the game if he made a TD that play. Several bad calls throughout the game. When I saw it was Ritter, I knew we were in for a battle with the yellow flag also.

But all's well that ends well, or at least that what the saying is. Still doesn't make me like the officiating though.

You may be right. They didn't spend time going over the replay so I could get a further look.

As I recall the biggest thing that drew attention to the play was Verne going on about it for a half of a minute or so.

They made some tick tacky calls on Alabama that's for sure.

Whoever went against Pagan could have been called for block in the back at least 3 times, and his jersey was getting held A LOT.

Not like it matters though, we still won. Just I hate this crew and always have.

I've seen better and I've seen worse...much worse.

The three that got me are as follows:

Ha-Ha's "targeting penalty." I don't mind the penalty being called whatsoever. They're told to err on the side of caution on this rule. My problem is that the penalty still stands regardless of the admission that it wasn't a foul in the first place. If it isn't a foul it isn't a foul. Booth should be given authority to waive the penalty off in that situation. The fact that they can't is beyond ridiculous.

On Manziel's scramble and blind hail mary they missed a BLATANT holding call. As Pagan had a hold of Manziel on of the offensive lineman literally walked over and pulled Pagan off of him by the back of the jersey. Clear as day with a ref STARING at it.

And last but not least Yeldon's personal. He shouldn't have done it. At all. It was dumb. But how many times have a looked at the TV and seen Manziel making the money gesture? Where's the flags on those? Double standard?

I had it in my mind that the throat slash penalty was added in the last few years. Now, having time to think more about it, it wasn't in the last couple of years but dates back to when Shula was head coach.

What I do recall (knowing this is correct) is the NFL made it a 15-yard unsportsmanlike call about five years before the NCAA adopted the same rule.

Anyway...to answer your question, one action is specifically mentioned as a flaggable offense. One isn't.

Oh okay. I see why they flagged it now.

The Bama game was incredibly well officiate compared to the debacle in Jacksonville. The JSU vs TUNA game was the most wretched piece of officials getting in the way of a game that I have ever seen. It was officiating with an occasional break for football.

JSU had been one of the best teams in the country in terms of least penalized through 2 games. Against TUNA they had 17 flags for 159 yards! UNA was 13 for 81 - a total of 30 flags in the game. JSU was only penalized 2 times the previous week. No joke - the officials called false start on an OL who didn't move...at all... didn't flinch or knod or even blink. TV showed the reply several times and the commentators were like "wha?" Half of the penalties on JSU were drive killers and were thrown inside of the UNA 30. The end of the game stats look like UNA should have won. The reality is that almost every JSU 2nd and short turned into 3rd and long because of a yellow hankie. If you read the play by play you get the idea... 2nd down JSU rush for 7 yards - holding penalty accepted...over and over.

Easily the worst called game I have ever seen.

The false start on Arie during our first posession (I think it was our second penalty of the game) was really ticky tacky. There was one against us in the second half where we supposedly had two players in motion and one did not come set. The replay did show two men moving, but one came set, the other took three steps, then the ball was snapped. Did not hurt in the grand scheme of things, but definitely a botched call.
