🏈 What Changes Are Coming This Week?

What specific chanes on offense and defense do you see coming before next weeks game?

On offense, I think we will see a little more of the no huddle.

On defense, I think we will see more pressure coming from our front 4 because they will not have to worry as much about containment. W.V. could not run the ball and our next two opponents should not be able to run it as well as W.V.

A few things that come to mind:

The return of three main contributors on defense in our front seven should be noticeable. We'll be facing a much smaller, but quicker, offensive line from FAU.

What to expect from Florida Atlantic is a bit of a mystery. Recall, this was the program that fired Carl Pelini for his "off the field issues," took the offensive coordinator and moved him into the head coaching role, and then in the off-season replaced him. They brought in Charlie Partridge who had spent the last six or seven years with Bielema. That background likely means they'll focus on running the ball and controlling the line of scrimmage.

FAU is a dual-threat QB system—at least it was last year—so we WILL be playing containment football on the QB position. They also have a WR that is taller than any secondary member we have on the roster. (If I recall correctly, 6'4".)

I see no reason to go to a hurry up, or a no huddle approach. The offensive line will dwarf what we'll face from their front seven.

I don't see a reason for us to try to stay balanced. If anything, it might be a good idea to avoid their secondary. Last year it did pretty well. (Auburn probably had the most success against them in terms of YPR, but had very few attempts.)

I wouldn't be surprised to see Christion Jones get quite a few APY. (FWIW, he had, sans one yard, as many APY as Coop had receiving yards Saturday.)

I'd like to see Howard involved in the offense and us not relying on Cooper so much.

As would we all. BUT, until he learns to block he's going to be looked at as a receiver every time he's on the field.

While Sims was staring down Howard on that INT, the CB's had to realize he was on the field and likely running a route. It's a given right now.

He (Sims) was locking on to receivers too much yesterday. A few times I noticed it with Coop.

One of the few changes i want to see.....at 6'4" 185, i hope JK Scott can put on at least another 15-20 pounds. I'd sure hate to see him on the receiving end of a rough the kicker penalty......he'll shatter. Lol. His 58 yard punt blew me away. it was like the ball took a nap up in the rafters before coming down inside WV's 10. He, along with Griffith have me feeling very confident about our kicking game for the next few years. I was already feeling good about Griffith after his only kick he had last year (the kick in which we don't speak of because it led to our 2013 season going down the drain) but with it being his first college career kick, and under that amount of pressure, i didn't think the kick was all that bad. It was actually a good kick....just need a little more distance. Improvements in kick return coverage and defending the HUNH will surely come (right personnel in the right positions) but overall, I'm happy.

I think we see somebody other than Sylve at corner. I think we see Coker a bunch if his leg is fine.

I also see the defense playing better albeit against a lesser opponent.

Like what was already said Nebraska hammered them, so if the #2 team can't really hammer them then something is wrong.

After watching the game again today Sims stared down almost every receiver. Several times with Coop he had no intention of going to anybody else WVU just couldn't do anything about it.

I think that punt surprise Scott. He not used of kicking in heavy air.

Being close to 60 yards may have surprised him. Punting well over 40 wouldn't have. In scrimmages this fall his shortest kick was 40 yards—one he shanked.

Punting is one of those recruiting rankings that's pretty reliable. He was #1 in the nation for a reason.
