personally lived in close proximity to?

I lived a street over from William Watts, the place kicker for 'Bama back in the 90's, '93-96.

He was a good friend of mine's little brother. Whenever we played football, he always wanted to kick. He never said he was going to be the kicker at Alabama but, he loved Alabama.

His older brother, Carlton, was going to play for 'Bama and then sustained an injury to his hip while practicing.

Jerrell Harris, and soon to be players, Dre Kirkpatrick and Kendall Kelly. 3-5 miles for all three.

My cousin lived next door to Freddie Kitchens when we were growing up.

That's going to be hard to beat. My former f-i-l lived across the street from Coach Bryant in Tuscaloosa for a while. Had him over at his house and played cards with him, the whole nine yards. That is what he said, I never saw any documentation of it.

Several actually. When I was a kid growing up in TTown I lived in the same apartment complex as Tiffin. Biscuit or Craig Turner lived there as well, but I'm not sure which one. Those two would be seen hanging out near the pool washing their cars, though I don't think both lived in the complex at the time.

On a side note, I got to play pick'up ball with those guys on one occasion. The guys in our complex played some basketball pretty regularly. We had a group of teenagers, as well as some adults (and some were local personalities) that all lived in the apartment complex and would play ball after work and stuff. Cornelius and Turner rolled up in there one day when a few of us kids were shooting around, and they asked if they could play. Needless to say, we were excited to let them in. They played for a few minutes and then took off. It was pretty cool to hang out with them, because as you can imagine, they were some of our childhood heroes.

Michael Ansley also lived in that apartment complex.

When I moved back home I lived relatively near a couple of former players. When I say "relatively" I mean within a half hour or so. When you live in the country like I do, driving to get somewhere and distance is a relative term.

I knew, and played against "Bull" Jeremy Pennington when I was in HS. Pennington played at Lamar County (where Spencer originally went to school). Being from South Lamar we hung out from time to time, knew all the same people, and so forth, I also knew Lance Tucker (former BAMA QB) from Fayette County vaguely, and played against him for 2 years. Even in HS I felt like Lance was vastly overrated. Good HS ball player, but not BAMA material IMHO.

Great stories, Porkchop. Biscuit lived in Ensley, I believe. That is about 4 or 5 miles from me, here in Pleasant Grove. I have never seen him outside of the football field though. I was 11 or 12 when he was in his prime.

You have had some great experiences.

BTW, just about 10 miles from my home, Bo Jackson was attending McAdory High School in the early 80's also. McAdory is in the Bessemer area.

Bo built his mother a very nice home on a beautiful lot sitting above the freeway. It is off on it's own; the freeway doesn't affect it. Probably a 3 million dollar home and property.

I live about 3 miles from Lamonde Russell. Went to the same school as him too. He graduated the year I started kindergarden. lol. He owns a carwash here in Oneonta with a friend of his. My cousin went to school with Jay Barker at Trussville. And my dad grew up in Clay and that's where all the Mussos were from and when Johnny Musso would visit family up the street from my dad's, they'd play football together. He said that was the hardest S.O.B he ever tried to tackle.

Played high school ball with a couple guys that kinda washed out at Bama. Afraid to list their names, they may be lurking around here. oh ok...Joe King and Jeff Bohannon. Another played at the Barn...Malcolm McCary.

Argo, where did you go to high school?

My home is the home where the Hannah family lived here in Albertville.

John Hannah, David Hannah, Charles Hannah all have their markings and initials on the kitchen door showing their height as they grew. The dad, Herb Hanna played for Alabama as well.

Not many considering I'm kind of young and I went to Muscle Shoals (definitely not a super recruit factory). I can say that Leigh Tiffin went to school with me, didn't run into him that much. I also was a freshmen when Jason Allen was a senior and talked to him a couple times....still can't believe he went to Tennessee. :no-no:

Well Jeff Fagan (FB 79-82) was a SSG in my unit in the Army. The first time I met him was during the '92 season. I was sitting in the barracks with some buddies watching the Alabama- Tennessee game when this rather large man entered the room. "At ease!" was called by someone in the room, but before we could stand he says "relax."

He asks who is watching the game they all point at me. He stands behind me and asks who I was pulling for. When I answer Alabama he says "that is the right answer!" He introduces himself as Jeff Fagan and I actually recognize his name and spark a conversation.

We played a few pickup games of football during my time in that unit and the man loved to play football and talk about Coach Bryant. Too bad his pro career didnt work out.

When I was a kid, my family lived in a subdivision in Northport called Indian Lake.

We lived next door to Jeff Rutledge and his wife. He and my dad became grilling buddies and remain friends to this day.

I remember going over to their house and watching old footage of Alabama Football. Mr. Rutledge was always eager to talk Bama football with my dad, who was an avid fan.

So yeah, next door to Jeff Rutledge for about 6 years. Cool people.
