Due to injuries a year ago, Alabama scrapped its traditional A-Day football game in favor of an hour-and-a-half practice.

This year, coach Kalen DeBoer is hopeful that won't be the case.

Speaking to Bama247 on Wednesday, with spring practice set to begin in a few days, DeBoer said they're going to try to put on more of a game-like event for fans on April 11.

"I feel like we're in a good spot where I expect it to be some scrimmaging," he said. "Probably like we did the first year. We want to."

While there may not be two evenly distributed teams pitting against one another, he expects to be able to hold a scrimmage inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

DeBoer said they wanted to do that last year but there was "no way we could" given the large number of players out with injuries.

"It would have been something where all of the sudden we would have had to stop the scrimmage if one guy got hurt, and not just tight end," he explained. "Because you want to get something out of every practice. So we scripted it. That's why we went down that route -- more so than the portal."

Unlike last year, there will be no spring transfer portal window to contend with in terms of showcasing players for other teams to target for acquisition.

Another twist on spring this year is that A-Day won't be the official end to practices.

DeBoer said they will practice twice after the scrimmage in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
