We've talked about the teams focus in the last two losses of 2013's season: Here's a GREAT quote from Pete Carroll.

Carroll is one Russell Wilson away from looking for another collegiate gig. I am not saying he isn't a decent coach. He is certainly a players coach, but I'm not jumping on the bandwagon.

ESPN sure will...predictably.

Swamptick I don't follow the NFL so I don't know if this is the norm or an anomaly. Never-the-less, when I heard this it stood out to me.

I can't recall which show, but one of the ESPN radio programs mentioned last week that he (and I guess his GM) had evaluated over 250 guys before they settled on their roster. That's guys they'd signed, evaluated, and if they didn't fit their mold, were cut.

I don't disagree with your comment on Russell Wilson. I do wonder if he had to replace his QB, how quickly he could find one to fit his system.

When it comes to Wilson, 18/25, 206 yards, and two TD's isn't exactly taking over a ball game.

Setting the Super Bowl aside:

The quote about being able to turn it on when they feel like it? Pretty descriptive of a team that lacked focus going into a game. Or, in other words, a team who felt they'd win just by showing up.

Not sure I agree with your assessment. They didn't win because of Wilson, they won because of what Carroll has instilled in the players and stoked the flames for a few years.

He and the new GM built this team from the ground up (just like other teams do). Of the 53 man roster, 21 of them entered the NFL via Undrafted Free Agents. You can hear in the interviews with many of the players both prior to the game and after the game what has been instilled in them. You're all underdogs, you've all been overlooked, you aren't supposed to be in this game. I'll go out on a small limb and suggest that Pete Carroll was the master behind all of this. Maybe he just got lucky and got the team to buy in.

They spank the best NFL offense in the modern era...this wasn't because of Russell Wilson, he had his part.

To flip the script on you a bit, did Elway choose right...

What I saw during the game was a team effort. There wasn't one player that just completely made the game for Seattle. Maybe playing as underdogs with a chip on your shoulder made the difference. If Pete created that atmosphere, My Hounds-tooth Hat is off to him.

Wilson certainly did his part, but defenses won and lost that game. Seattle's won it and Denver's lost it. Game reminded me of a 1/21 post from another board that nailed it beforehand.

Re: Denver vs Seattle - who wins?

Seattle wins. Denver faced only four opponents all year with a defense that was in the top half of the league. And they faced no great defenses.

Carrol basically built that secondary from scratch. They won that Superbowl in dominating fashion. They scored in every phase of the game and that defense held the #1 offense in the league with one of the best QB's to ever play game to just 8 points. Carrol is a great coach.

We may not agree often, but I agree with Plano on this one. Not a huge Pete Carroll fan, but you have to give credit where it is due. Russell Wilson is great for Carroll not because of his passing stats but because of his heart and how he plays. How many times did he extend plays last night because of his mobility and game smarts? And that roster is full of players that were, in many cases, overlooked but play their hearts out and play smart. Their defensive switching off against Denver's crossing patterns showed great discipline and confidence in their system and their teammates. You have to give Coach Carroll a lot of credit picking the right guys, showing them how to win, and motivating them to execute.

Gotta agree with the last cpl guys, saying that it is all Wilson is a tad bit ridiculous. Carroll has taken a team full of 5, 6, 7th rounders and undrafted free agents, especially on defense, and turned them into World Champions.

I agree with the last few guys. Saying Carroll isn't a good coach is ridiculous at best. Wilson didn't win Seattle the Super Bowl. That defense won that game for Seattle!! They held the #1 offense to 8 points!!!! Wilson is a good QB, but to say if he gets hurt Carroll is doomed is silly.
