Seem that every time when Bama is playing for the NC it come up.You all know how this is going, Bama claims 15 NC when it only should claim ?????. Right? Someone said that the '41 should come off, someone here from the site. I just can't remember who was the one that wrote those words. What do any of you guys think? Should it come off? Most of the big shots keep showing that Bama has 11 NC. But, WE BAMA FANS know how many!! RIGHT!!!! Come Monday night Bama going to add a new trophy to the case. Maybe MVP or two.

Rick,

I used to let it bother me and then I read into a couple of our "questionable" championships and actually agree with the critics in a couple of instances. What I also know is, we have probably been screwed a couple of times along the way as well. 1966 and 1977 come to mind (with 1977 being the only one I personally remember). I have lived through more national championships than most teams have ever seen or ever will in my lifetime. I am good no matter the count.

Since the NCAA doesn't crown a football champion, and never has, the number will always be debated. The organizations that determined champions in the early years don't exist anymore. Does that make it any less credible?

they don't crown a champion, but they do recognize one.

and i read a few years back that they recognize 'BAMA as having more than we actually say we do. so every time i hear some auburn fan say something about we claim more than we really have, i tell them, "ok, then we'll claim all the ones the ncaa says we have. and it's about 4-5 more than what we say we have." it shuts them up pretty quick.

That's the route I go as well; I think the number is 20 recognized Championships.

I usually reply well that is fine we have plenty so take away the ones you do not like. That usually works also.

We do have 10 since 1936 which most people accept as credible. That is one more than any other program.

If you only count years that more than one service named Bama champs then you remove 1941, 1945, 1975, 1977.

AP titles would be 1961, 1964, 1965, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012 (starting 1936)

Consensus National Championships (only starts in 1950) - 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012

I don't think the AP gave the '78 to Bama it was the UPI that gave it to Bama. AP gave it with to SouthCal that year. The '79 Bama won it all. But, the way these thing are going then you may be right.
