ok, going into the bye week, let's do some "what if"s and "what about"s.

if the regular season (+ conference champ. games) ended now, and the polls ended as they are now..... how would you call the playoffs?

#1 UA 62/62
#2 PENN ST 47/62
#3 UGA 42/62
#4 TCU 40/62

so...

UA vs TCU.....and.....PENN ST vs UGA

try to think about why each team would win vs the other or why they would lose vs the other.

obviously this will have to be a hypothetical since if UGA wins out and so does Bama, then we'd play each other for the SEC. and the winner would definitely go on to the playoff and the other would be left out to play in the sugar bowl (most likely). but just go with the thinking that we'd still both get in.

ND......runs table and 1 or 2 undefeated....they n...

There's a realistic posibility that Penn State would jump to #1 if they soundly beat the Bucs this week.

Just looking ahead , I think I'd be ok with this. If Bama wins out and remains #2, they would get the Sugar instead of the Rose Bowl. Closer to home means I could feasibly get to both games... Haha. Not only that, less travel time equals more rest and focus for the BSCG in Eklanner (my dad's pronunciation)

There's a realistic posibility that Penn State would jump to #1 if they soundly beat the Bucs this week.

Just looking ahead , I think I'd be ok with this. If Bama wins out and remains #2, they would get the Sugar instead of the Rose Bowl. Closer to home means I could feasibly get to both games... Haha. Not only that, less travel time equals more rest and focus for the BSCG in Eklanner (my dad's pronunciation)

I think they leapfrog us with a win, especially after last week.

AP and Coaches poll is a fun filler while we wait for the playoff poll, but I don't really care much about them... they are mostly meaningless now.

I'm thinking the playoff poll will only put PSU ahead of us IF they decisively beat OSU. I wouldn't think an unimpressive victory would be enough. As I stated in an earlier post, the number 2 spot would be a better deal if we can win out.

With that opinion stated... I don't think PSU has the horses for OSU. Their sampling so far is just not enough to know.

Terry, you addressed it before me, but PSU's body of work includes last week and they still didn't garner a single number one vote. The idea that an off week is going to dissipate a majority interest in Bama being the top team just doesn't compute for me. We have destroyed teams and played backups in liberal quantities. Informed observers and voters realize that.

I'm not talking about the AP poll. It means ZERO. Come Tuesday, don't be surprised to NOT see us #1 in the only poll that matters. I'm sure we'll be in the top 4 and by years end winning out would put us 1 or 2 IMO, but as of this moment it wouldn't shock me in the least to see someone else at #1 in the playoff committee poll. The reality of that is that it won't matter either as only the last poll will matter.

I keep hearing that we "haven't played anyone". I'll say this, at the beginning of the season, there weren't too many teams that wanted to trade schedules with us. There isn't anything we can do about teams failing to live up to expectations, or injuries causing a team to nose dive because they have no back up. Hey we had to make adjustments when we lost 5 LBs and we still won - big! We have beaten everyone we've played and with one exception (A&M), we've thumped everyone comfortably. Even the A&M game didn't seem like we were in danger of losing it. There seems to be a love fest in the media for the big 10 and these teams are getting more love than they deserve. The anti-SEC sentiment is tiring as well. If we stay focused and don't let the remaining teams on the schedule to sneak up on us, we'll be fine. The SECCG will be huge against Uga. Then the playoffs.... PennSt is a one horse pony, ohio state defense is NOT scary, Clemson offense isn't scary, TCU/Oklahoma ... nope. We'll be fine as long as we stay focused. And I don't know why the council of 13 would place Bama behind any of these teams. And, as has been pointed out, not a single voter in either poll voted for anyone else as #1. ROLL TIDE ROLL !!!

The #2 spot puts Bama on the west coast for the first semi-final. How is that a better deal than being #1 and playing in the southeast?
